Sleater-Kinney at Stage AE / Pre-gaming

Sun March 1 at 6:00 PM, Stage AE & the environs.
400 North Shore Drive, Pittsburgh, PA, USA (Map & Directions)
Are folks interested in doing some kind of meet-up around the Sleater-Kinney show on March 1st? It'll be the bee's knees, and the opener looks reasonably legit. We could round it up with some kind of pre- or post-gaming nearby.

I'll definitely be at the show and may be up for pre-gaming. Would probably have to skip a post-game.

Doubtful about any gaming, pre or post, but the show sounds good to me.

Okay, we're in for the show. My wife thinks I'm taking "gaming" too literally. Would you clarify what you have in mind?

... Gah, show is sold out. Nevermind.

I don't have tickets but I live three blocks away so I might stop down for a drink with you if I'm around.

jon1270, I'm sorry to hear about your ticket situation. I may have one extra one, if you can find another.

I'm in for show-related festivities for sure. (I can't believe I got beat to making this meet-up!)

Yeah, that's on me for using an ambiguous term. Probably food? Maybe, um, I dunno, a game? I was talking to a MeFite aaages ago with plans to bring a youth, so nothing R rated. (This was supposed to be in "proposed", but somehow ended up in "actual".)

I'm not sure what we could possibly do near Stage AE that would be... well, I guess I don't really know what anyone here means by pre/post "gaming" or R-rated activities, but we sure as heck aren't going to the Tilted Kilt or losing all of our money at the casino (walking distance!), so I hope anyone who is worried about things getting to "wild" or "crazy" (or even "kwazy" [Brooklyn 99!]) can be confidant in the assuredly staid nature of any proposed gathering.

Speaking of that, where are we considering meeting? There are a couple bar/restaurants across the street for discerning people of means, and also quite a few bar/restaurants up the hill in Allegheny. Does anyone familiar with the area have any opinions?

Well, we sprang for tickets from a reseller so we're going after all. Open to food or drinks beforehand, but we'll likely head home after the show.

Okay, I might actually be able to get a ticket via crazy random happenstance, and HELL YEAH I am willing to drive up to DC. Can anyone recommend a hotel for Sunday night?

(from. Drive up FROM DC. I got excited, sorry.)

Alas! Hotels are not my forte. Maybe the The Priory?

Okay - time to start firming this guy up. & yeah, it does seem like the area around Stage AE is bereft of delicious eats. But! We could potentially meet downtown and then take the T over to the stage.

My partner and I are probably in for delicious eats downtown beforehand. I have NEVER TAKEN THE T so I am a terrible yinzer and would like to have that experience. Probably not for hanging out after because I will be sad when my alarm goes off the next morning if I do that.

A friend of mine stayed at the Priory last month and spoke highly of it.

There's three hotels on the North Shore and any of the downtown hotels are only a subway ride away. Also there's a very cool B&B called The Parador just three blocks up the hill from State AE. (Full disclosure, the owner of the Parador is a friend/neighbor).

All right, I've got a room booked at the Parador! SO EXCITED.

So, a possible place downtown for some pre-show food: Proper. Close to a T, and some solid eats. Other contenders also welcome.
posted by Going To Maine at 7:58 AM on February 22, 2015

If you aren't parking downtown, Proper may be a bit out of the way (I'll be parking in Allegheny, north of Stage AE). If consensus says Proper, I'll be there. But I'd vote for Pittsburgh Grill and Sports Bar, which for me makes up in location (kitty corner from the venue) what it loses in Yelp stars.

I've had a counter-proposal from a friend that we go with Jerome Bettis, on the grounds of
a) prefers the food to PG&S
b) just about as close.
c) is on nowait.

... but they've also just said that "whatever is fine", so this is not a huge preference.

Anyhoo! Do we know when the show actually starts? I'd assume food will take an hour, plus walking time, etc.

*sigh* I just stitched together my discrete plans for the weekend in my head and realized that I am not sure what time I am getting to this show (coming back into town from a weekend trip). So, mea culpa for trying to orient plans I may not even be there to take part in. Where are my Facebook stickers for expressing my emotions??

Relevant show-strategy info:
Doors are at 7p.
There is only one opener, to the best of my knowledge (Lizzo).
The rock'n'roll time math that I am familiar with says [doors +1 hour +45min for the opener +30-60min=rough start time], so I would expect S-K to get on stage around 9:30. I'd give that estimation plus or minus 30 minutes just to be safe, but I would be very impressed if they went on before 9p. And 10p sounds late, but not inordinately so.

Just called Stage AE, and they said that we could get the act times tomorrow at noon.

Me, I'm pro seeing Lizzo, so I'm calling for meeting at 6 at the Bettis Grill. Eat, drink, get over there by 8 and be happy.
posted by Going To Maine at 4:10 PM on February 28, 2015

Time estimates in: Lizzo at 8, SK at 9:15, so I think that's a plan! See yinz soon.

Still trapped on a bus, so might be ten minutes of so behind schedule. I'll be a tall guy with a big green parka and a small friendly ghost on my sweatshirt.
