I will be in Amsterdam from January 20-22, 2015 for an academic conference. Let's meet up at de Zotte on the 21st at 19:00.

I leave that up to locals. I've never been to Amsterdam before and have no conception of the place. I'm staying at the Hotel Notting Hill, so somewhere readily accessible by public transit or walking from there. Maybe some place with good food and beer?

I put myself down for a maybe -- I will be around, but work is currently slated to be stupid busy in Jan, so sneaking off to A'dam for an evening may or may not be as easy as it ought to be. Still, Mefites and good food and beer is a thing that should happen.

Then I suggest either de Zotte, or its sister Tripel. Both excellent Belgian beer cafes which do good food. But we'll need to book!

de Zotte and Tripel both sound great. de Zotte is slightly closer to the hotel, if we have no better way to decide between them. How far in advance do we need to book a reservation?

22nd works for me! What time are you thinking? It looks like the earliest I could get there coming straight from work is probably 19.00-19.30ish.

Phone up a couple of days before, it's just that it's impossible to simply wander in and expect to find a free table.
And just to throw this out as a public service announcement. Kraftwerk are playing 7 successive nights in Amsterdam, and tickets for the 21st are still available.

People here and elsewhere have recommended a booking / reservation for de Zotte. I don't arrive until Tuesday, so if someone local could make one that would be great! It looks like there will be 6-8 of us.

Indeed, I had a great time and managed to socialize somewhat successfully for a change! Maybe next time either Café Gollem & Ethiopisch Eethuis Lalibela or at the Jopenkerk brewery here in Haarlem.
Should probably wait until it's a bit warmer, though.
