Summer Party in Central Vermont

Sat July 24 at 2:00 PM, Terrapin Gardens Farm
801 Gage Rd, Tunbridge, VT, USA (Map & Directions)
turtlegirl and I are having our annual bash on 24 July this year and wanted to extend an invite to MeFites who may be interested.
The party will be an all-day affair (2pm-?) to let people drift by when it is convenient to them, but it also helps us as we have limited parking. Out-of towners are welcome to pitch a tent -- or to crash on the floor -- on a first-come, first sleep basis. I can provide a list of somewhat local lodging options if need be.

We'll have a log (small keg) of local beer, some homebrews, and the grill out. Locals are encouraged to bring side dishes if they can. Out-of-towners can bring beverages if they feel a need to bring something. In the evening we'll make a fire so s'mores can be had.

If you are interested in attending:
1) MeMail and I will send you directions and/or answer any questions*
2) NO PETS. Sorry. With the llamas we can't have dogs around. Seriously.
3) Please consider carpooling if you can.
4) Bring any acoustic instruments you can!

Hope to see folks.

* Google Maps shows our place 1/2 miles further than the actual address!!!!

If I can convince my folks to let me borrow the car to drive to central Vermont to hang out with people from the internet and their llamas... I'd love to :-)

I almost got jessamyn lost in the woods behind their house, but we did find a boat in the middle of the woods. Bring a compass.

[Unfortunately, I probably won't be able to make it. Still, I advise the rest of you to almost get lost in the mountainous woods behind their house while looking for boats. Also terrapin makes yummy beer and has a fire pit. And the view is spectacular. Plus, llamas.]

I think the idea of Guard Llamas got me there! Could I beg a spot on your floor?

No problem on floor space.

Looks like Horace Rumpole and I will be driving up from the Boston area. Yeah llamas!

One day I may just have to go to a VT meetup, just not this one. Work sucks up my whole summer.

That's great, DiscourseMaker. MeMail if you need directions.

For those who don't want to camp or sleep on the floor or couches, here is a list of accommodations in the area. The law school tells how many miles it is from each place and we are about 5 miles from the school.

If enough people are interested, I can contact a beautiful B&B called Maple Cake Farm (their website is down as of this moment for some reason) to see if the entire place is available. It is the closest place to our farm and is an old farm house with like 12 rooms and a HUGE double kitchen (double of all appliances). The rent if for weddings and other events, but from what I hear it is often open because it is not close to as many attractions or main roads as other places. But, like I said it is the closest place to us.

The B&B website doesn't seem to say how much it costs, but we might be interested in staying there Saturday night.

Try giving Ashley Lincoln a call at the number listed.

There's a chance my wife might get her passport back from the US by the 24th -- she's applying for permanent residency up here, and the last step involves her sending her passport in to be sent back with her PR card -- and if so, we'd love to come. It is not a strong chance, though.

Thank for the update, Shepherd. Hope it all works out whether you can make it or not!

As it happens, I'll be in the NEK on the 24th. I'll need to sort out logistics to confirm attendance, but there's a ... hmm ... 60% chance I can make it. Unfortunately, I will have to leave around 6-ish to meet up with my family.

Hope you can make it! Shall I email you directions, mojohand?

Looks pretty straight-forward: South on 14; left on Gage Rd; look for Terrapin Gardens Farm sign. Am I on the right track?

I'll be on a largish street motorcycle. I imagine Gage is dirt, but it's been graded sometime this decade, no?

We don't have a sign, but its just under a mile up from 14. There is a small green sign with red numbers on it.

The road is mostly fine. Slightly ribbed in some places.

Forget what I said about a small keg. Got a 1/2 keg of Wolaver's Organic IPA!

There will also be a sheet cake!

Looking forward to meeting some of you, and hoping to see some familiar, and missed people too (Miko and LT, I'm looking at you!)

Sorry I missed your event; last-minute logistics issues. Hope you can post picture links!

That was super-fun and your farm is so beautiful. Thank you for inviting us flat-lander city folk! Now I just wish I could remember all the names of everyone I met!

Thanks again, terrapin, turtlegirl, and affiliated ungulates, for your gracious hospitality.

The good news is that we loved the pancakes at Eaton's. The bad news is we failed the IQ test.

We got my wife's PR forms on Saturday itself! So sorry to have missed this!
