Tue April 15 at 6:00 PM, Eastburn
1800 East Burnside Street, Portland, OR, USA (Map & Directions)
Howdy! I'll be in Portland on business and would be up for a meet-up in April. I'm arriving on 13th, but very late. But I'll be there until the morning of the 16th, which means I'll probably be available on the evening of the 14th or 15th. Anyone interested in having a beverage or two with an east coast Mefite? I'll have a car, so I'm flexible on venue. LMK, thanks!

I've been out of commission for a while lately, but I'm game, sure!

Do you know where/when (in general) will be convenient?

Is this your first time in Stumptown?

I should be available on the 15th!

Ooh, mayhap!

I bet I'll be available!

What part of town will you be staying in? Even though you'll be car-enabled, there's enough places that there's no need to plan something too far afield.

I'm staying at the Hilton in Lake Oswego. No, this isn't my first time to Portland so I sort of know my way around. I work in publishing so the area I'm most familiar with is the Pearl, thanks to Powells, but I'm game for almost anything.

I give Toekneesan my whole-hearted endorsement as an excellent meet-up person!

Also, I love Chinese food, so if you have a fav haunt, let me know. Love Szechwan cuisine in particular, but also a big fan of greasy street food.

I don't personally know where the best Szechuan restaurants are around here, but to get the conversation going I did find this site. Also, I noticed Lucky Strike being mentioned often during my cursory search.

Chinese is, well, not Portland's strong suit. Maybe we could do something Portland is good at, like artisinal cocktails and overly hopped beer? Or Vietnamese food? Or a meal based entirely on pork products?

(Not joking. I can easily find a place for each of those, but I think only Pok Pok might be able to do all 4.)

We certainly don't have to go to a restaurant, it's really just for my own interests that I'm asking about Chinese food. The meet-up can be anywhere.

In that case, I was going to suggest Green Dragon...but on second thought maybe April's still a bit early in the year to be able to take advantage of their outdoor seating. Eastburn, maybe? We haven't been there lately. Or Tugboat downtown?

It could be fun to go to Eastburn again- and they do have that outdoor courtyard if it turns out the weather is nice enough for sitting outside. I'm not against Pok Pok either- if we have a group, we can actually make a reservation and not have to wait forever for a table if it's busy.

Eastburn is good if we have a mix, some people want food, some people just want a drink. Pok Pok, if we reserve a table, is maybe going be more of a sit down, let's have dinner (and drinks- they have good drinks). Tugboat is good if our group isn't too big and people would prefer to eat first and just get tasty beers.

Alternatively, for chinese food- I guess we could slurp down some soup or something at Chens Good Taste and then head to Tugboat for beers? A few of us had a meetup there once- the wonton soup was indeed tasty.

So I'm here. And I just had an amazing day at the Oregon Zoo, which is what brought me here this time. I spent the entire day with the elephants and the elephant handlers. What amazing animals these are! Been tweeting pictures and video about it all day. I'm spending the day tomorrow helping a scholar record the sounds of human/elephant interactions including a bath and a foot grooming. This has been an amazing trip. Looking forward to telling you more about it tomorrow. See you then.

Oh, I'll have on my "everyone needs a hug" t-shirt. I have a long, braided ponytail and a beard, and I wear glasses. Hope to see you there.

And we're all glad he did! Great meeting you, give us a shout next time you're in town.

I had a great time. Thanks to everyone for showing up. Sorry I couldn't join you for a donut afterwards but I had to be up by 4 to catch a 6 am flight. If you're ever in the State College area, drop by and I'll make you homemade donuts.

Hey, I also took pictures. I won't post anything unless you all agree it's okay, but I thought I'd put that out there.

Oh, totally post pictures! We've all seen us before. I have added the one (1) photo that I remembered to snap that night, after you'd already split off from us.
