Ok Taters, which one of you angered the weather gods?
posted by DiscourseMarker at 8:51 AM on February 3, 2014

I don't know, but I'll mark myself down as a "maybe." I don't want to drive through the weather myself or force my brother to drive less distance through same to pick me up from the subway station.

So the forecast keeps getting worse, and it looks like there might be quite a lot of snow on Wednesday. How would people feel about just pushing this back a week, so we can stay home and stay warm?
posted by DiscourseMarker at 6:39 AM on February 4, 2014

It's only a short walk for me, so I have no opinion on postponing. If it's going to be uncomfortable/unsafe for other people to get there, it's fine with me to push it back.
posted by backseatpilot at 6:43 AM on February 4, 2014

I'm a long drive/T ride away, so I favor postponing it, but if it weren't postponed, I'd hardly begrudge people a good time in rough weather.

Short walk for me, too, but I absolutely do not mind just doing it next week.

I'll ditto backseatpilot --- I should be able to make it no problem, but if other peeps want to wait a week that's fine too.
posted by Diablevert at 6:50 AM on February 4, 2014

I'd be able to come this week if the T stays open and have a work thing next week.

I won't be there this week.

I am planning on going, but have absolutely no problem with pushing it back a week. (It would actually work better for me to go next week -- I'm socked with stuff to do every evening this week so I wouldn't mind the break, but I am also trivia-starved and excited to see the new venue and to meet the new Triv-Jockey.)

I'm planning to stay home from work tomorrow whether we're officially closed or not, so my preference would be to push back a week and not head out in the muck tomorrow at all.

I could easily come, but I'm perfectly fine with pushing it back, especially if getting together this week means skipping next week.

Ok, well I think I'm going to go ahead and push trivia to next week, since most everybody (sorry Martinx!) can make that. I can't say as I am super looking forward to schlepping out in the snow either.

So we can celebrate Lincoln's birthday instead! Go Lincoln!
posted by DiscourseMarker at 12:40 PM on February 4, 2014

If they have Lincoln questions, I saw the movie, so I know facts like his wife got bonked on the head and William Seward was his best bro

I probably won't make it next week, but if Brattle runs out of seats before I get there I'll hop on the 77 and join you.
posted by maryr at 3:37 PM on February 4, 2014

hey next week I can probably make it!
posted by maryrussell at 2:25 PM on February 6, 2014

Just a reminder - trivia is this week - weather be damned!

(though actually it looks like the forecast for Wed is fine so far. SO. FAR.)

Qualifying statement...have a work thing that will probs go to 7ish. Save me a spot on the overflow team pls?
posted by maryrussell at 3:00 PM on February 11, 2014

Apparently my work thing is supposed to be done by 7:30 and it's in Kendall so if I get right on the T I can be there at exactly 8 which means I might be able to make it this week.

I repeat my previous dependent-on-Brattle-line maybe.

There's a slim chance I'll be late tonight. Probably not, though.

An advance screening of Miyazaki's last film? Nah, probably won't have much interest.

Sure enough, full. I'll take the 77 up and be there by 8

Nice phrasing from the recap re: poor scores on the planets:
Folks, this is your cosmic neighborhood; you may have to live on one of these planets someday, so please try to respect them and not turn Earth into the USA of the Solar System, where no one knows or cares about shit outside their own comfy nest.

I will concede that the larynx is an organ.
posted by maryrussell at 1:03 PM on February 13, 2014

In biology, an organ (or viscus) is a collection of tissues joined in a structural unit to serve a common function.[1]

Ohh, yeah—I guess that's how skin is defined as an organ. "Structural unit" is a handhold for definition exploits, though. e.g. The knee is an organ! A random selection of bones is an organ!

Then again, if you define organs as components that can be disconnected and still operate given a supply of blood and neural impulses, the larynx might still make it. Organs! You know 'em when the Supreme Court sees 'em, I guess.

Yeah, if you can see their organs, it's definitely porn.
