Polish Family Dinner

Fri February 7 at 7:00 PM, Staropolska
3028 North Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago, IL, USA (Map & Directions)
Let's indulge in the over-the-top, all-you-can-eat pierogi and sausage fest at Avondale restaurant Staropolska. Dinner is brought out family style in huge, sharable bowls. No one has ever left hungry from a Polish restaurant.
To order Family Dinner, you need at least 5 people (if this event fails to attract sufficient interest, I will cancel or reschedule it).

I will be at the bar at 7:00, and we'll be seated with whatever number of people are there by 7:30. It will be much, much easier to order, split the bill, etc if everyone orders the Family Dinner (which is 16.99, plus tax and tip) and pays cash. If you want to have a meetup where everyone orders a la carte and only has a credit card and it's a huge mess, you can have your own meetup.

One liter of Zyweic or Okocim (delicious ice cold Polish beer) is $5 at Staropolska. The Family Dinner menu (below) is in no way, shape, or form vegetarian or allergen friendly.

Dinner Is Served With Rice, Potato Fried Or Whipped, French, And Polish Style Salads

Includes:
Potato Pancakes with apple sauce and sour cream
Soup Of Your Choice
Assorted Salads
Ceasar Or Staropolska Salad
Devolay breaded chicken breast, stuffed with parsley and cheese butter
Sausage with sauerkraut
Beef Strogonof
Potato Dumplings And Fried Potatoes
Pierogi Mix Or Of Your Choice
Blintzes with sweet cheese or apple sauce
Coffee tea, and iced drinks

Despite my grumpy, NO VEGETARIANS OR CREDIT CARDS ALLOWED tone in the post, I really miss working downtown and not having a dog to walk and being able to see all of you at The Goat, and I love you all, and I hope enough people can make it.

Also, did you read the part where the beers are one liter? It's like, the anti-tiny-beer.

Oh! If you do this again in April when I am in town I would be ON IT. Sounds delicious!

This sounds fabulous, and I hope enough people can make it, too, but January 15th is a night I probably can't make it.

I kinda picked the date at random, so if there are people who want to go who have conflicts, we can reschedule.

the 15th is also difficult for me (because of broomball on wednesdays) , but this is a great idea, and I might make it work anyways.

I can make the 15th but would be able to make any other day too given enough time because this sounds incredible.

Does moving it forward one day to the sixteenth change anything for anyone?

I would be interested and could do the 15th but not the 16th.

I'd love to do this, but would only be available Friday through Sunday (though about any week). I've just accepted I'll have to miss most gatherings anymore.

So, BevosAG, is this a "as long as I have this job" state of affairs, or is it a "for now" state of your job, cause it sucks you keep missing things or the things miss you.

Potentially both. Were I to transition to a different role in my job (or were projects to slow down a bit), I'd be in town more often, and able to make it. If I took take another job, it wouldn't be one with as much travel. Of that, I am sure.

Ok, we're not getting a huge response for this date. Let's try Fridays, because I love angry ghosts, and the Eamon Daly method of gauging interest in dates.

FAVE THIS COMMENT IF YOU WOULD ATTEND IF THIS EVENT WAS MOVED TO FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 7TH.

I would be interested in attending either the 16th or the 7th with my +1

I went ahead and changed the date to Friday, February 7th to see if we could make it easier for people to attend. Yay pierogi!

I will be in town visiting my folks for the weekend, I think I should be able to make this, but I will confirm once I make sure I don't have any other obligations.

Every time I look at the menu, I realize my fear is that I will not want to ever eat anywhere else.

This Friday!!! If this popped up in your recent activity and you had forgotten about it, please make sure your RSVP is still accurate, and start drooling in anticipation.

Dude at Pierogi Heaven is always like "Do you want onions and bacon?" and UM, YES, WHAT DO YOU TAKE ME FOR.

Also, it's across from one of the few shops that sells my favorite silicone lube, which made for a lot of weird combo lunch+errand running trips when I worked in the loop.

Loop, to there, and back? How long were your lunch breaks, three hours?
posted by Evilspork at 8:14 PM on February 6, 2014

I've only been to the Pierogi Heaven at 169 N Wells St. Though some day I expect to visit the big old Pierogi Heaven in the sky.

This is the first I'm learning of Pierogi Heaven. My world is forever changed.

MERE HOURS UNTIL FAMILY DINNER IS OURS. As mentioned earlier, I'll be there drinking at 7pm, and we'll be seated with whatever our final number is at 7:30.

We will be later than 7 obviously but be there by 7:30.

If it is possible to wake up with a food hangover, I have. No regrets though. Great seeing/meeting all of you. Thanks again for setting it up.
