Meet Some Neighborhood MeFites in Amsterdam

Sat March 16 at 4:00 PM, Arendsnest
Herengracht 90, 1015 Amsterdam, The Netherlands (Map & Directions)
eugenen will be in Amsterdam mid-March and has called for a meetup. We'll gather on 16 March, starting at 16h00 at Arendsnest (Herengracht 90, Amsterdam centrum) for beers and snacks and whatever follows those things when we BeNeLuxMeFites get together, e.g. chicken. A good headcount is necessary so we can reserve an Arendsnest table.

Um, this is listed in the MeTa sidebar as taking place on March 4 (giving me a premature "oh crap, missed it" reflex).

Oh, crap, I did NOT see that field. Sorry folks. Let's try this all over again.
posted by knile at 12:26 PM on March 4, 2013

That's better, thanks.

You shall recognize me. I shall be wearing pants and bearing a plate of beans.

Anyone allergic to dogs? We're thinking of bringing our small beagle to the pub (if allowed and no one objects).
posted by Philosopher Dirtbike at 6:46 AM on March 9, 2013

I'm technically allergic, but I love dogs. So if I sneeze, it's worth it.
posted by knile at 6:48 AM on March 9, 2013

...oh wait, I get it. This is the for-petting kind of dog not the for-eating kind. Nope, not allergic in that case.
posted by digitalprimate at 7:43 AM on March 9, 2013

I'm in favor

No problems with dogs here.

As long as it doesn't pretend to be a WWI flying ace, it's fine by me.
posted by MartinWisse at 12:43 PM on March 9, 2013

I'd be impressed if it did pretend to be a WWI flying ace.
posted by knile at 12:44 AM on March 10, 2013

She's more an F35 pilot than WWI flying ace.
posted by Philosopher Dirtbike at 8:28 AM on March 10, 2013

Alas I cannot make it to yet another meet. Pity, as I'm impartial to piloting dogs.
posted by fakelvis at 1:15 AM on March 11, 2013

Oh, and I've definitely seen a dog or two in Arendsnest before.
posted by knile at 3:25 AM on March 11, 2013

I'm afraid I've got to drop out, I've been trying to work around it but I've got a timepoint that needs me to drop into lab for it on Saturday evening.
posted by Blasdelb at 2:22 AM on March 12, 2013

Arendsnest won't let us reserve the table, which surprises me as I really thought I'd seen reservation signs on tables there before. Anybody else want to show up early (15h00?) with me and camp out at one of the big tables? Most of you will recognize me, but if you need a hint, I'll be the brown fellow in the pink shirt.
posted by knile at 9:00 AM on March 14, 2013

Sure.
posted by eugenen at 9:13 AM on March 14, 2013

Great! You'll be the American-sounding fellow who looks like an attorney, then? Or a hippie? A hippie attorney! My kinda counsel.
posted by knile at 9:24 AM on March 14, 2013

Will be there at three.
posted by MartinWisse at 12:22 PM on March 14, 2013

I shall consult with The Great & Powerful Mrs Primate regarding an early arrival, but don't count on me until 1600.
posted by digitalprimate at 12:22 AM on March 15, 2013

American-looking, actually. I'll also wear my MetaFilter t-shirt, which I believe I remembered to pack.
posted by eugenen at 4:29 AM on March 15, 2013

Helaas - won't be there as yet more people will be arriving to admire the now 5 week old sourisnoire jr and I'll be preparing yet another batch of beschuit met muisjes Btw, if anyone knows of an adequate english translation for those, I'd be much obliged.

Will try to be there next time, especially if somewhere slightly more central.

"Unnecessarily hard and messy biscuits with unnecessarily licorice-flavored and messy sprinkles".

Gefeliciteerd, btw, to you & Mevrouw Sourisnoire.

We'll be there at 4; we'll be the American couple with the beagle. Unless we're not the only American couple with a beagle, in which case we will be *one* of the American couples with a beagle.
posted by Philosopher Dirtbike at 2:23 AM on March 16, 2013

Does Doggy Dirtbike not have a MetaFilter shirt she can wear?
posted by knile at 2:30 AM on March 16, 2013

I've been arguing with myself for the past week about trying to come, but I threw my back out and it's still making me fairly unpleasant to be around... Sorry to miss this, I was looking forward to it! Shame I won't get to meet PD +1, but have a great time folks and I'll see the rest of y'all (and maybe Baby Sourisnoire? Congrats! :) at the next one.
posted by likeso at 4:16 AM on March 16, 2013

Martin and I are here!
posted by knile at 7:05 AM on March 16, 2013

I thought I might be able to make it, but unfortunately I won't. Maybe next time!
posted by bjrn at 7:29 AM on March 16, 2013

Thanks for coming out, everyone! That was a lot of great beer.
posted by eugenen at 4:33 PM on March 16, 2013

A guy woke me up on the train, concerned I would miss my stop. Thanks, guy on train! And thanks to you all for a fun afternoon, evening, and night. My goodness.
posted by knile at 6:55 PM on March 16, 2013

Yeah, and thanks for setting this up. We had beer, dogs and cats, oh my...

Had a great time! I daresay we're gaining on NYC in meet ups. Maybe after another five years....
posted by digitalprimate at 1:33 AM on March 17, 2013

Thanks for the fun time, everyone. I imagine we'll see you again at a future meetup.
posted by Philosopher Dirtbike at 2:39 AM on March 17, 2013

We floated a few ideas for future meetups: Jopen brewery, Ij brewery, what else?

Stella Brewery!

Stella Brewery!
I can't tell if you're being ironic or not. Please advise.

That said, I would like to see Leuven at some point. My schedule over the next 6 months is kind of cuckoo bananas, which means I don't want to commit to organizing anything.
posted by knile at 8:42 AM on March 21, 2013

Next time should be somewhere more central, as per Sourisnoire, also somewhere where Goodnewsfortheinsane can be at.
posted by MartinWisse at 12:09 PM on March 21, 2013

The Stella brewery here may not have the quality of beer of fancier places but just the scale that they work at is pretty fascinating, also Leuven is pretty fucking awesome.

On the other hand I think MartinWisse's right, and there have got to be nice breweries in that area.

Utrecht? One of our ilk who was at Bodegraven was raving about a pub they know in Utrecht. And Oudaen has tours. I could even happily swing Utrecht on a non-Wednesday school night...
posted by knile at 1:59 PM on March 21, 2013

Er, actually, are there non-geographic constraints about gnfti's attendance that I'm not aware of?
posted by knile at 2:05 PM on March 21, 2013

The Oudaen tour is not really that impressive. As far as I remember, you're basically led into a - granted, mediaeval - cellar to look at a copper kettle. They actually managed to put the whole tour in the banner of the website.

Oudaen itself is nice tough, but there are bound to be better pubs in Student central.
