Dean E Smith Center, 300 Skipper Bowles Dr, Chapel Hill, NC, USA (Map & Directions)
Morehead Planetarium and Science Center is bringing Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman to the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. "An Afternoon with Adam and Jamie" will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010, in UNC's Dean E. Smith Center. The event is part of the North Carolina Science Festival.
Let's watch Metafilter's own asavage, then meet up afterwards at the Weaver Street Market to talk about it!

The event starts at two o'clock, and should last ninety minutes. We could all convene at Weaver Street afterwards, since many people seem to be bringing their kids along.

I won't be able to make it to the performance, but I hope to see you at The Weav!

No deets for Weaver Street, except to say I think we should meet up there after the performance. Adam Savage? Will you be joining us at Weaver Street? I say you join us for a beer on the lawn and tell us the lowdown and dirty that you can't tell regular folk.

I'm there. First meetup, here I come (with husband and child in tow)!

Hey, I just realized today there is more than one Weaver Street Market! Which one are we meeting at?

I'd assumed the original Weave in Carrboro.

The original. The Weaver Street Market in Carrboro has a great lawn, and is a perfect place to chill out especially when some members are bringing their kidlets.

For the uninitiated: Weaver Street Market (locals don't say "The" except when abbreviating it to "The Weave", which only a very few people do) is a co-op grocery store that has evolved into a fabulous community gathering place. There's a low-key cafeteria which always has good vegetarian/vegan food (and meat food, too, for some reason), indoor seating, lovely outdoor seating next to a nice lawn, a big outdoor sculpture/fountain, made-to-order hot chocolate (and coffee), and the best baguettes in the Triangle (better than the European bakery in Durham, better than Whole Foods).

It can be a little chaotic on a popular day, but it's a wonderful place to hang out on a fall afternoon. Kids (always carefully supervised and generally polite) run around there all the time. There are concerts on certain days.

And yes, I mean the one in Carrboro, actually located on Weaver Street. They recently opened two satellite stores, in Southern Village (a development in the outskirts of Chapel Hill) and Hillsborough.

OK, I'm now iffy as to whether I'm going. Hope I make it out, though.

Btw, I am wearing a cream and red patterned dress and my husband stands 6 foot 8 for identification purposes at Weaver Street.

Leaving the Dean Dome now and headed to the Weave!

That was fun! Too bad asavage couldn't make it to the meetup, but it was a pleasure to meet msali, unintelligentlydesigned and pinky (and the other non-MeFite couple). We'll have to do it again sometime!

Went to Weaver Street Market and couldn't find anyone. :-(

Didn't think to check this thread to see if anyone had given identifying details. That would have been smart.

Totally bummed.

Jeoc! So sad that you didn't find us! We didn't have any tools for identifying ourselves. I kept looking around to see if there was anyone who looked like they were trying to find someone.
It was fun, though. It was great to meet Rocksteady and Rocksteady-girl. It was also great to finally meet pinky! Too bad asavage didn't even give us a shout out (I thought it might come when he talked about the airplane on the treadmill).

Oh jeoc, I'm so sorry. We really should have had a sign, I wish I had made one!

You foiled me this time, MeFites, but you can't hide from me forever!

Looking forward to the next meetup.
