The MetaFilter Variety Show
Come for a short session of stand-up, interactive improv and music brought to you by two very talented MeFites - brainwane and Reeya Banerjee. [more inside]
Portland's Funniest Person comedy show
Opening night of Portland's Funniest Person contest, with a lot of the strongest competitors -- the ones who already work at Helium as MCs or features, including Metafilter's own msalt, Gabe Dinger, and Shane Torres.
This is a dozen comics doing 5-6 minutes sets of their best material. If you tell them you're a friend of Mark, you can get 2 for 1 tickets (2 for $10). If that's still a bit steep, memail msalt as he has a limited number of free tickets, first come first served.

Toronto's Indie Comedy Hour
Toronto's Indie Comedy Hour is a show that you have to see at least one time. It's fun, it's low-key and it's held in a really nice venue, No One Writes To The Colonel (they have some bitchin' mojitos).
The show has featured performances from Hannibal Buress (Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock), Bob Kerr (This Hour Has 22 Minutes, Hotbox), Marco Bernardi (Cream of Comedy 2010), to name but a few. Each show closes out with an open mic showcasing up-and-comers who may be featured acts in upcoming editions of the Indie Comedy Hour.

Standup Comedy in Portland
Mefite Mark Saltveit (msalt) plus Nathan Brannon and Comedy Central's Steve Byrne at Portland's Helium Comedy Club, two shows actually at 7:30pm and 10pm.
Standup Comedy in Portland - Sklar Brothers and msalt
I'm going to be hosting a week at Helium Comedy Club. Headliners are the Sklar Brothers -- regular guests on ESPN Sports Center, & former hosts of Cheap Seats on ESPN. They've appeared on many TV shows including Entourage, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Grey's Anatomy (where they played conjoined twins). Also, they're funny.
(Edited so it doesn't disappear before the last show Saturday) [more inside]
Nerdy standup comedy in Brooklyn
Have you ever thought, "I wish Sumana Harihareswara would do some standup comedy about project management, Linux, relationships, Agile, public transit, science fiction, and These Kids Today"? I'm performing half an hour of geeky standup in the basement of a church in Greenpoint. 8-8:30pm. [more inside]
Geeky standup comedy
Sumana Harihareswara [that's me, brainwane] is performing half an hour of geeky standup at an Astoria bookstore. 7-7:30pm, Thursday, April 21st. There's a cafe upstairs and lots of bars and restaurants nearby. Admission is free.
LIVE from the Lab Comedy Night
Live From the Lab started as a weekly happy hour open mic night but is now the first (and sadly only) monthly Indie Comedy Night in DC. I'm not really sure what Indie Comedy is but I know we're the only ones trying to do something weird you can't find at the comedy clubs. We've got a dozen incredible comics (including Mefi's own comedy genius i_foody), sketch groups, and one dedicated dramatic monologist all taking comedy to it's logical extreme and way beyond it. Expect to get offended and possibly educated accidentally. [more inside]
Bridgetown Comedy Festival - Tabor Lounge I Showcase
Jon Daly (Jon Stewart, Conan, UCB, SNL)
Solomon Georgio (Seattle)
Don Frost (Portland)
Paul Jay (LA, Biggest Mistake podcast)
Marianne Sierk (LA, Live at Gotham)
Keith Lowell Jensen (famous atheist)
Hosted by Mark Saltveit (Metafilter, palindromes)
Solomon Georgio (lanky, very clever queer Ethiopian Seattlite) and Don Frost (blue collar stream of consciousness improv) are brilliant. I haven't worked with the other comics.
Bridgetown is one of -- if not THE -- best comedy festival(s) in the U.S. 180+ comics in 120+ shows at several venues along Hawthorne Street over several days (April 21-24th, 2011.) Plus long-form improv, sketch and live podcasts. These are the best "comics comics", not necessarily the Seinfelds and Chris Rocks', but some will get famous and all are doing great work right now. Margaret Cho, Andy Dick, Doug Benson, Oscar Nunez, Jimmy Dore, and Hannibal Buress you might know, but also don't miss Kyle Kinane, Kristen Schaal, Brent Weinbach, Moshe Kasher, Hari Kondabolu, Nick Thune, Auggie Smith, James Adonian, or Don Frost either. [So as not to be overdo it, I'm editing this first event to cover the show I'm hosting on Thursday night, at 10pm. ] [more inside]

Standup Comedy: Ben Bailey & Me
I'm appearing at Helium Comedy Club with Ben Bailey of the TV show "Cash Cab", Thursday at 8pm, Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm and 10pm. Word on the street is that he's very funny and not especially like he appears on the show.
