Asheville, Saturday, May 7th & Sunday, May 8th

I'll be passing through Asheville on the evening of Sat, May 7th on my way to visit my brother in Ohio, and hiking in the area with a pal on Sunday May 8th. She wants to go someplace a bit out of the ordinary, if possible, and I'd like to see spring wildflowers and/or waterfalls, if possible. We'd almost certainly be up for drinks and food on Saturday or Sunday night as well - i.e., we'll be out and about and would totally love to have MeFite company. Anyone interested in a day hike and/or dinner? Queer bar recommendations welcome, too.
krikey, I just saw this. I'd love to show you around, but I think I strained my hamstring yesterday, I'm having a hard time walking right now. I'm supposed to go on some heinous hikes in a couple weeks, and I may be shit out of luck. If you end up in town, I might be able to meet and drink, though I'm more entertaining in the woods. I'll message some other local mefites to alert them of this. I don't know what's good queer-wise (at least, not reliably) but I'm sure you know this town is nicely open, and maybe some other urbanites can help you more with what's in town. I'd love to go to another meetup, I was nearly asleep at the last one.
If you want to see wildflowers, there are a number of good possibilities, though hard as it is to believe, the peak has passed in many places. I'm guessing Redbank Cove off of the BRP (right near Balsam Gap, off of Highway 74) may be really kicking because it's a little higher elevation and very rich. Big Creek in the Smokies is one of the best spots, especially the first trail out of the campground up Baxter Creek, but it may be a little past. That's nearly an hour from Asheville, however.
Memail me if you'd like more ideas of florific places. I certainly know GRSMNP very well, and many other spots around.

Thanks Red Loop. I don't know my schedule this weekend yet but there are lots of tourists coming this weekend according to the hotel I rent space from, so I'd suggest reservations.

Thanks, Red Loop, I'll run those by my friend, though we may decide to relax in town Sunday (I'll be doing lots of hiking and camping in Tennessee during the next week). Looks like I'll be arriving Saturday night and heading out early Monday morning. If folks want to meet Sunday for a walk/cool exhibit/lunch or dinner/drinks, that could be nice. The only thing edible I know I want to do is swing by the Chocolate Lounge where lazaruslong works; I've been ordering from French Broad Chocolates regularly and would love to see what they've got in person.

Ok, change of plans; looks like I'll be leaving Asheville on Sunday morning. Next time, maybe. We might still do the Chocolate Lounge Saturday night if we have time. Thanks again to Red Loop et al for the info and memails.

Holy smokes! That Chocolate Lounge spot is amaaaaaazing. I had a lavender creme brûlée and the super nice woman behind the counter listed all the gluten free things I could choose from without looking at me like I was being needy. Two thumbs up!
