[Confirmed] Eugene/Springfield Meetup, PublicHouse, Sun 3/24 at 2 pm
posted February 26, 2024 4:31 PM   RSS

Come grab a late lunch and a drink or two and meet your fellow Eugene/Springfield MeFites at PublicHouse in downtown Springfield at 2 pm on Sunday, March 24! (The meetup is definitely happening, but I currently encounter technical errors whenever I try to switch the event category from Proposed to Confirmed.)
I've never been to a meetup -- my IRL history shows that I RSVPed 'Maybe' to one proposed Eugene meetup pre-COVID, but either it never came together or I just skipped it. I'm flexible as to the particulars: most weeknights or weekends will work for me with a couple weeks' notice, I'm comfortable going somewhere indoors but definitely understand if folks would prefer to stay outside, and I'm happy to just get coffee/drinks or do something more activity-focused (I'm always down for bar trivia, for instance). I live in the Whit but have a car so am not restricted geographically.

Hey bassooner, what is "the Whit" in regards to Eugene/Springfield?

I'd be up for it depending on timing. I've been to one meetup before but it wasn't here.

Sorry! The Whit = the Whiteaker neighborhood in Eugene, which is the neighborhood directly northwest of downtown Eugene. I just meant that since I'm centrally located, it's easy for me to meet up somewhere downtown but also not all that far for me to drive anywhere in the Eugene/Springfield metro.

I’m in Eugene, recently transplanted from Portland - I’d love to meet up!

I'm in Eugene and would be interested.

What about getting together at PublicHouse in downtown Springfield later this month? A good variety of food options and a couple of bars in a cool space. Would the afternoon of Sunday March 24 be good for folks? Most weeknights that week would also work for me, though Publichouse has events most nights -- trivia Mondays, bingo Tuesdays, etc -- that we'd need to either be ok with as background noise or to participate in.

The 24th at PublicHouse would be good for me as long as it's early to mid-afternoon. (Have to be somewhere else at 5pm).

I'm in Eugene and just seeing this now. Yes, let's meet up! Public House is fun. I have various meetings each week on Tues. or Wed. (library programs, labor union stuff), but am off on Sun. and Mon., if an afternoon get together is in the offering. Good times ahoy!

Sounds like we have at least a quorum of 3 for PublicHouse the afternoon of Sunday, March 24! I'll switch this event from Proposed to Confirmed, with a start time of 2pm (though we can still shift the time earlier or later if folks want.)

2pm is good. This is on my calendar.

Great! For some reason I'm running into errors when I try to confirm the event -- I sent a note to the mods -- but this is definitely happening.

Friends, what I thought were seasonal allergies has blossomed into The Crud, with a sore throat, body aches, and a fever. I'm exceedingly bummed that I'll have to miss my long-desired Eugene-Springfield meet up, but I don't want to share with you whatever I have. Perhaps we could have another meet up this summer? That would be delightful. In the meantime, if you want to say hello to me IRL, stop by the Eugene Public Library and ask for Wendy! Have a lovely time today, all.

Bummer, hope you make a speedy recovery (and thank you for being considerate)! Definitely down for another meetup in the summer!

For others reading, this meetup is definitely happening, despite the "Proposed" (computer error). I'll get to PublicHouse a bit early to scope tables and post on here where I'm sitting. I'm a 30-something white dude wearing green pants and a red Chicago Bulls / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles t-shirt, probably with a flannel over it.

Arrived! I grabbed a table in the cozy Study area -- when you enter from the main entrance and are facing a couple of food stands, turn right and walk through the church bar. There are lots of open tables everywhere, so we can move outside if folks would prefer.

I'm definitely down for doing this again in the summer
