in the spirit of 15th anniversary celebrations, who's up for a Melbourne meetup on the 25th?
it's been ages since the last official Melbourne MeFi Meetup, and what better excuse for one than the 5th anniversary of the 10th anniversary of Matt laying the groundwork for his eventual purchase of cat-scan.com?
in honour of our venue choice for the MeFi 10th anniversary, I propose The Standard Hotel in Fitzroy.

18/19 works better for me. I'm working the weekend of 25/26 so those are school nights for me. Looks like Workshop is indeed still around.

come to think of it, The Standard would be appropriate (since that's where we did the Melbourne 10th), and also be less shitty what with actually being able to hear people talk.

My recollection of the Workshop is that it's pretty shouty, so the Standard sounds fine to me. On the other hand, the Workshop is about two block from my work so if we wind up going there, it also has its advantages.

Gingerest, I'm a freakish northern interloper, but I can attest that the Melbournanians put up an almost watertight display of avuncular warmth and eldritch hunger bonhomie. If you look past their milky, dead opalescent gazes, you will find hearts that are very much beating, if not actually alive.

To throw another venue into the mix - Two Birds opened their new brewery to the public last night - and rockwell does the food. It's a great spot with nice big tables, good beer and, DUH, AMAZING FOOD - not that I'm biased *at all*.
It's in Spotswood, so a bit of a trek, but right near the train station for staggering home.
Obvs, not fussed if we go somewhere else, but it's a great spot.

Sounds great, js, but Spotswood is a big UGH. We should def go there, but with a bit more notice, and not on a day I have to offload my regular weekly clients & time/travel is a bit more casual On the 18th I'm already booked until 8.30 pm, so I'll have to reschedule/cancel appts costing $270 if I decide to knock off at 5.00. I'm torn.

OK, I've booked for 12 people at 6:00 under the name Russell (assuming pompomtom + 1 + several are actually going to be coming). We can get a better table (the big corner triangle near the bar) if it's 10 or less, so if people can firm up the Attending /Maybe numbers I'll update the booking.
