Mon June 23 at 6:30 PM, Henson Park Hotel
91 Illawarra Road, Marrickville NSW 2204, Australia (Map & Directions)
Trivia Newton John is back in Sydney next week. Let us gather together, break bread, and drink of the fruit of vine and the fields.
Let's do drinks at the Henson Park Hotel in Marrickville, as it's nice, has tasty beers, and is friendly to the MeFite progeny of which there are several. Review. Other review.

So, who's in? Sing out here.

Venue is perfect. I have a slight clash with the date...unless I leave by 19:00. So if it suits the hordes more, I'll do the Tuesday. If not, I like the Monday more but yay either way!!

Oh you excellent moles. I'm in.

I know the moll/mole spelling split is contentious but I really feel 'mole' is more low rent and I wanted to honour these feelings.

Oh you excellent moles. I'm in.

I should bloody well hope you're in; we're doing this for you. ALL FOR YOU!

Taff - I have no problem with doing it on Monday instead.

I don't know what that means, taff, but I've changed the date.

Should I confirm? The automated emails won't go out until then.
posted by His thoughts were red thoughts at 6:38 AM on June 17, 2014

Confirmed! I await the flood of RSVPs. Hopefully some of the peeps who missed out on last week's meetup can make it to this one.
posted by His thoughts were red thoughts at 6:45 AM on June 17, 2014

Oh, sorry. My french is obviously far too sophisticated for you Red thoughts!

I was inquiring as to the time... obs.But now can see 18:30. I may arrive a bit earlier to feed my monsties and hang about with a Newtowner. Mmmmm, best beer ever.
posted by taff at 12:48 AM on June 18, 2014

Excellent idea. I'll be there!

Okays, this is my first day back on the job, and I'll be experimenting with new public transport options, and leaving my wife at home by herself for a whole day for the first time in since the baby, so I may be able to make, but confirming would be... bold!

I do wish to see you all however.

Much as someone with the fabulous username Trivia Newton John sounds like someone I'd like to meet, I'm working that day so a trip to Sydney is out. Have a rip-roaring good time, folks.
posted by valetta at 12:02 AM on June 19, 2014

Bugger Valletta. TNJ is well worth the effort. Damn.

She's a difficult wench, and won't see sense and come back to Sydney often enough.

RedThoughts, Ubu and myself are going to re-charm the pants off her to get her to move back to Sydders. How hard could it be?

If only smoke would help lay it on thick, pants-free charm would be a certainty! (Hang on, did that sound vulgar?!)
posted by taff at 3:12 AM on June 19, 2014

Hmmm. Let me check my vulgometer. Click... whirr... ssssssssss... burp! Result: vulgometer says no, but only if statement is read carefully in conjunction with foregoing remarks. Careless readers and skimmers may blush. Hope that helps.
posted by valetta at 6:00 AM on June 19, 2014

I'm confused. Do we wear pants to the meetup or not?
posted by His thoughts were red thoughts at 6:14 AM on June 19, 2014

Seems like that would just be wasting time & effort.
posted by UbuRoivas at 6:16 AM on June 19, 2014

Ok, pants-free it is then. But I insist on sporrans.
posted by taff at 7:30 AM on June 19, 2014

Sporrans it is. I'll also have my Sgian-dubh handy for the cheese board.

Woohoo! My first meet-up! I will be there. And you can all explain Sydney to me. I have too many questions right now for my one a week limit.

It will be like ask.metafilter, but in person!

Um, starting now, in fact:

What's the best way to get there from Parramatta? (Dundas Valley). I'm assuming driving is horrible in Sydney around that time of day, so maybe I will experiment with public transport.
posted by lollusc at 6:07 PM on June 19, 2014

Public Transport - see you there.
posted by unliteral at 6:32 PM on June 19, 2014

You're in Dundas? FINALLY, another true westie instead of these boho hipsters who insist they are westies. I am just down the road from you in West Ryde.

Yeah, totes don't drive. The train will sort you out.

You can also catch the bus (m5-something) that goes along Victoria Rd.
posted by smoke at 7:40 PM on June 19, 2014

Indeed, in terms of venue, Vic Rd bus stop is much closer than train station in terms of walking to venue.

I pass no comment on bus reliability - I will be catching it for the first time myself!

I will try to make it! As a pregnant lady I'm not much fun in the evenings (not much drinking or staying awake these days) but I'll see what I can do - I would love to meet the Sydney MeFites.

Come on down! It's a Monday night; we're not going to get totally smashed. The Henson is supposed to have tasty foods.

I might be a touch late - maybe 7?

Is Ubu bringing ubuling? I was thinking of getting there around 17:30 to feed my monsties and send them home with MrTaff....what time are the rest of youse going??

TNJ?
posted by taff at 5:08 AM on June 22, 2014

Yeah probably around 17:30 too.
posted by Trivia Newton John at 6:52 AM on June 22, 2014 [1 favorite]

Is Ubu bringing ubuling?

Yes, although Ms Ubu is looking unlikely.

We'll probably be there roughly 6:30 for about an hour or so. Useful to try to stick to a set bedtime with the little one.
posted by UbuRoivas at 2:48 PM on June 22, 2014

Cool. I expect there will be a short crossover. Will try to find a good table near the heaters and playroom. Failing that, just the heaters.

Incidentally, I think taff and I are obliged to fight you now, for this insult against our homeland.

Finally, a meetup I remember is happening on the day it actually happens! I will be there with bells on. Also, pants. Pants with bells on.

Enbelled pantsification embrangled! Just addressing the dress code at the moment and heading on over.

And yes, totally fighting the pretender to the throne "smoke".

You have no idea what you've started, yo.

Aw crap, bells is it? I wish I could be there, coulda brought my wonderful big brass school bell. Da-dinggg! Da-dinggg!

Ok. I'm totally here. In the beer garden. Although I can't see any beer growing in the trees. Liars.

Damn, I just checked in now and saw that people were arriving at 5 30.I could have done 5 30 but didn't realise. I'm on my way now (on a train -couldn't figure out which bus was the "m5-something") but won't get there until shortly after 6 30. Sorry.

How do we find the right table when we get there?
posted by lollusc at 12:54 AM on June 23, 2014 [1 favorite]

In the beer garden, at the bench seat nearest the ball room. There's a loser drinking beer with a straw. Wearing glasses.

Hope everyone had a nice time, I am stuffed, first day at new job and work in six months has only cemented my desire to retire as soon as soon as humanly possible and devote my time to gentlemanly pursuits such as eating bread and idle gazing.

Just got home. It was fabulous. There were 457 of us. Or thereabouts. We missed you smoke, ya great piker. But totally understand. Bread eating sounds brilliant. That and beer swilling. Mmmmm, Newtowner.
posted by taff at 5:36 AM on June 23, 2014

A delightful evening. Thanks all.

smoke, I understand entirely. Make sure it's good bread, like Sonoma or Black Star Pastry. Oh wait, those are INNER West delicacies, and not for the undeserving burghers of West Ryde like yourself.

That was bonza.

Black Star Pastry. Oh wait, those are INNER West delicacies

Funny, every time I pass Black Star (which is often) there's about 20-30 Taiwanese or Hong Kong studenty looking types queuing outside. Not sure what's up with that, because it was never that way at weekday mums, bubs & ubus coffee hour, but mostly i just wanted to say I was visiting Black Star before it got onto some expat student food blog.
