I'll be sticking around Hong Kong for the holidays. Does anyone else want to just have a night out of food and drink?? (Also, are we still the most ascetic mefi meetupers ever??)

I'll be here, and up for drinks as well as food. (And dancing? I haven't made it out dancing yet, which is very, very sad:( )

I was just this weekend compiling some bar/club/lounge options for friends who are visiting for a few days. I haven't been to any personally yet, but could suggest a few options from what I've culled from internet recommendations if you wish. Do we want food and drink at the same place? Food somewhere then drink somewhere else, maybe somewhere with a dance floor as well as nice couches or booths for lounging?

Yes, please recommend away! I have no idea where to go, thus the very open-endedness of this IRL proposal.

I'd be down for dancing, along with drinks and food. I don't think it all needs to all be in the same place though.

I've built up a pretty good list of lounges on HK island. Clubbing usually means LKF, I'd advise you avoid Friday and Saturday nights though since the dance floors get so crowded you can't even move.

For lounges I recommend Grey Cafe (one of the best views in HK, but pricey) in Admiralty, the Wooloomooloo rooftop in Wanchai (also a good view, less pricey than Grey), 001 in Central (if you can find it), and Vibes is an open air shisha bar in TST (will be great if the weather holds up). Ozone is novel for being the highest bar / lounge in the world but kinda touristy and I think that it's up so high the view actually turns kinda bad because everything looks tiny.

For bars, if you can make it out to either Peel Fresco or Joyce Is Not Here in Central mid-levels, both do live music or have something going on most nights. Of course, music means that it'll be difficult making conversation. Sahara Mezz Bar is a Moroccan restaurant that does wonderful shisha pipes after 9:30. If you stop in for a late dinner you can go on right into smoking.

Clubs are the venues that I'm least familiar with...you'll most likely have to head to Lan Kwai Fong (LKF) for that. The current hip spot is Dragon-I, but the cover charge is hefty. Fair warning, Friday and Saturday nights get really crowded, to the point where there are so many people on the dance floor you can't even really move around past around 12:30 or so.

Next couple of weeks are rather busy for me, but if you guys nail down a date let me know and I'll see if I can make it. :)

I'm in favor of open air or well-ventilated options, at least to start with.

The internet recommends that Yardbird in Sheung Wan has good cocktails and Japanese whiskeys as well as food. I'm headed to Blck Brd tonight and will give a review of it and anywhere else we end up at tomorrow. On the food and drink combination option, the mozzarella salad at Classified Cafe in Wan Chai was amazing (and I only got it with the second-cheapest of their four fancy mozzarella options:P), and it looked like they had a reasonable wine selection. These are probably all somewhat pricey options though.

What are other folks' schedules like - were you thinking any particular date, asta? I'm pretty flexible.

001 was amazing! But expensive. But excellent. We ended up there for a bit after going to Blck Brd. Blck Brd was also a fine bar/lounge: more inventive cocktails than many places, a decent selection of other alcohols, and a comfortable atmosphere. But perhaps a tad overpriced for what it offers.

I don't have any particular dates since I'm pretty free in the evenings.

I actually was at Yardbird the other week. I preferred their drinks over their food, which to me seemed a bit overpriced.

We are being very indecisive:P Here's a totally selfish suggestion that we can feel free to completely ignore if it's not to others' liking: Thursday, Dec. 27, 7:00 or 7:30, at Classified. Apparently they have branches in a variety of neighborhoods, but I like the decor of the Wan Chai one best based on the small photos on their web site; it has a two big, rustic farm tables, is cozy feeling (good for a winter holiday celebration), and is on a nice corner.

Gonna be out of town til the 2nd. You guys have fun!

About Classified: it's yummy! The one on Star Street, Wanchai is okay but tends to fill up quickly. The one on Hollywood Road is a bit roomier.

Classified sounds good. Been meaning to go actually so yay!

If we do the one on Hollywood Road that would be super convenient for me! I'm up for whichever one, though.

I've put it for the one on Hollywood because it's actually really close to where I live too...let me know if people can't do the date/time.

Should we make a reservation? (Do they take reservations?)

So... Asta and I have met, though it was almost two months ago now and just the once; I have no idea what 6550 looks like... I'll be the one with curly blonde hair, likely a sufficiently unique description in Hong Kong? See you folks there!
