I don't know. I am in San Diego, but budget is an issue. What would it cost? Where can I get more info?

If you don't have tickets to Comic Con at this point, you are not going to have tickets. That doesn't prevent you from going to events around con, like Trickster for example.

I'd be up for a gathering. I both live in San Diego and am going to Comic-Con on a press pass. I haven't been to a Metafilter gathering in something like 10 years. :) Having an event at the time of Comic-Con without it being in the midst of the convention would be ideal. I can make meet-up recommendations away from the Gaslamp and Convention Center, if you want them. Place near a trolley line or within walking distance.

I would be cool with meeting people, if it can be worked out. Though it sounds like Comic Con is not possible for me at this point. Embarcadero Park is right there by the convention center, as is Sea Side Village...and no doubt lots of other options if the intent is to make it easy for out-of-towners showing up for the Con.

I'm only there Friday and Saturday -- Thursday morning won't work for me. Based on initial lack of interest -- do we think this is happening?

I don't think so. I seem to have scared everyone off.

Is it the blood soaked claws? Or the venom dripping fangs?

I'm up for a meetup. Last year I hung out downtown about the same time as the Zombie Walk, which was good times and I recommend it. I'm not going to the Con, so it would need to be something adjacent but not requiring any kind of credentials.

Based in part on some of the remarks above, I am going to suggest a Saturday meetup. Anyone care to suggest a time and place? What types of activities usually work well for meetups? I hav nevr done a mefite meetup.

I'll be in San Diego, I don't have any SDCC pass so I'm looking for something to do on the periphery. But I'm only in Weds-Friday, so maybe let's meet Friday instead?

I'm up for a meetup, but I'll be concentrating on Con mostly. Sunday would work best for me if we're trying to get together *away* from Con.

OK, full disclosure here: I just woke up after a great night volunteering for w00tstock, and I fly out tomorrow. And after reading Todd VanDerWerff's article which mentions how this year's CCI is even bigger and the volunteers even more incompetent, I am definitely going to try a few tricks I know to bluff-check my way into the Con floor.

Assuming that doesn't work, there's always WB's "Extra @ Comic-Con", Gam3rCon or Sega's Arcade.
