2011 meetup

The zoo fizzled... what will 2011 bring Columbus?
Thoughts?
Y'know, I haven't been to the zoo in awhile and a Thursday night would work very well for me. I wouldn't mind taking on the trivia again, either, in hopes I could go this time. :)

I'd be up for the Zoo (or trivia!) All of the dates you name work, I'm pretty free until Dec. 10th.

If it was after the 2nd it would work. I have a fancy family pass I could drag a couple with me on, as well. I missed trivia and thought it sounded super fun, and hoped to see a repeat in the future.
I should admit to notorious lack of social commitment, however, due to my nutty schedule (but I am working to make a better effort).

I would love to come to either the zoo or try out the trivia since I missed it before. Unfortunately I'm out of town the 3rd through the 8th, so the timing might be tricky. I'll do my best to make it if possible, but if not you can definitely count me in for next time.

Now that I know this exists (hello!) I would enjoy going to the Zoo; dates after NaNoWriMo and the end of the academic quarter (i.e. the 8th and 9th) are better than those before. I'm a member at the Zoo (sorry, no free guests on my pass) so the cost wouldn't bother me.

I'll go ahead and call it for December 9.

Yay!
Where should we try to meet at the zoo? The main gate, or somewhere inside?

In an instance of "I am wicked lame," I can't make it on December 9th. That week is looking a little suspect for me, so I'm hesitant to try to reschedule. I hope you guys make it to the zoo, though!

I know :-( I have a friend in town for a short period of time, and I need to do other things, and it's frustrating.

Drat! I just saw this again. I won't be able to make it either. `,:|
Hopefully I'll see you folks in the new year :)

I was a bit on the fence about whether or not it made sense for me. Since I'm the only one still confirmed for the event perhaps we should cancel it and try again next year?

That seems reasonable.

If we could find a source of honey I could host a mead making party?

Blasdelb - how much honey would you need?
I'd love to try my hand at making an ancient orange.
Alternatively, we could just go to House Wine or somewhere else serving Bros. Drake and just get hammered on Mead without needing to wait 6 months for it to ferment. :)

For a batch in my five gallon carboy (19L) we would need 10 to 16 lbs (4 to 7 kg) of honey. This would make a bit more than 20 wine bottles worth. I've also got three [1 gallon] jugs with which we could make up to two [1 gallon] batches each requiring 2.5 lbs (1kg) of honey. Each gallon would make about 4 wine bottles.
We could call it "MetaFilter is where I am a Viking", make nice labels, and send a bottle to each of the mods.

I'd be all for that! Though I think we should just post pictures of the mead, and then drink it all ourselves in a mocking fashion.

I've now got more than enough honey, 20.5 lbs. Does anyone have the graphic design skills to make a label? Perhaps a [metafilter comment white and gold] viking ship drawn on the classic blue with the title and space for our names and information about it?
I would like to get it started soon because it will take a while to ferment. Depending on when we would want the meetup I might get it started as soon as I get home on the first or second, if this is to soon I will also need, if anything more, help with the bottling.
Solon, we might not be able to get very far in one sitting, the final product should contain a total of at least three or four liters of ethanol.

I'd be happy to help with bottling. I'm not much of a graphics person, though.
