An early evening show of comedy with a vague Philadelphia Eagles theme, to celebrate the launch of the new book "Controlled Chaos: Chip Kelly's Football Revolution" by Metafilter's own msalt (Mark Saltveit). Featuring several comics and surprise guest stars. [more inside]
Chip Kelly's first NFL Game + "Tao of Chip Kelly" signing
To celebrate Chip's first real NFL game, McMenamin's Backstage Bar is showing the game against Washington at 3:55pm, after a Q&A and book signing for "The Tao of Chip Kelly" by metafilter's own msalt.
I'm hoping to rally enough steady Chip/Eagles fans to convince McMenamin's to regularly show Eagles games all year since they're not on national TV again, except maybe the Thursday night KC game.
Book Release Party: "The Tao of Chip Kelly"
The official book release of my book about the new coach of the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles (and former coach of the Oregon Ducks) will be at Theatre Exile before the 8pm showing of "The Philly Fan," a one-man show about sports.
This is not a biography or Xs and Os book, but rather a look at the philosophy and innovative management strategies underlying Kelly's success at Oregon (46-7 over 4 years, a BCS bowl every year). The Tao of the title is not glib; I argue that -- wittingly or not -- Kelly's football programs are near-perfect implementations of Taoist principles such as The Uncarved Block, tzu-jan, minimizing ego and emotion, and the pursuit of spontaneity and flexibility through long experience and focused, humble observation.
Book signing and reading at 7, plus a Q&A after the play.
