Quand j’ai couru chanter ma p’tit’ chanson pour Marinette
La belle, la trâitresse était allée à l’opéra.
Avec ma p’tit’ chanson, j’avais l’air d’un con, ma mère.

Three! Three concurrent MeFiChi threads! Ah ah ah!

I didn't realize until now that I actually have a race that evening, so I'll either be leaving the meetup early or arriving quite late.
posted by Iridic at 3:03 PM on June 25, 2010

What sort of race? I have such a hard time picturing you lycra'd out.

Donut eating?
Alleycat?
Who can prepare and fry churros the fastest?

Or, you know, something normal like running.

PS I am at Xoco which always me of Metafilter now

PPS Someday am I gonna have to post an apology in Metatalk where I say I'm taking a break because I've been posting drunk in too many MefiChi threads?

PPPS I AM SO NOT DRUNK

PPPPS Does like two beers count?

PPPPPS Probably, if you weigh 100 pounds and have a seven mile ride ahead of you

PS equals "always reminds me"

(TOTALLY NOT DRUNK)

Does anyone else remember the Star Wars Insider magazine articles by Anthony Daniels where he turned out to be incredibly funny in an incredibly British way and he always ended the article with eighty billion postpostpostpostscripts?

The sad thing is it might have been Star Wars Collector magazine, because I might have had subscriptions to both.

(thanks god she was born a girl, because there's no way she'd be having this much sex otherwise)

Just plain old running. The race will be a 5k through the verdant hills of Lincoln Park.

(And Lycra? Never. I started running in cotton and polyester, and by god, I'll die running in cotton and polyester.)

Well said.

I actually feel less inhibited knowing that most of these people have already met me in real life, and thus know that me stumbling around slurring out jokes about their moms is my default state.

That double-I is weird. It should be MefIRL, or Mefirl, or something.

At least it has this nice professional background.

I wish I could be there. I was wondering, however, if any MeFites in attendance would be willing to pick up a couple of size L Billy Goat shirts to mail to me in Cleveland. The one I have recently met a horrific ketchupy and mustardy end. Please MeMail me if you're down!

Are we supposed to stop posting meetup threads in MeTa?
posted by adamdschneider at 2:42 PM on June 30, 2010

Should we post comments to the two other Chicago Meetup threads, redirecting traffic here? has there been some kind of official ruling, or cut-off date, as to when meetup discussions can only take place on IRL?
posted by tzikeh at 3:19 PM on June 30, 2010

I think the last thing Matt said was that meetup proposals should still go in MeTa (at least for now), and then when a date and time and location are decided they move here.
posted by shakespeherian at 3:32 PM on June 30, 2010

OK, I've decided I'm going to come tomorrow. It'll be my first meetup. I assume there will be hazing. Be gentle.
posted by phunniemee at 3:34 PM on July 6, 2010

I'm definitely going to make it, which is not really a surprise likely because I am never home and will take any opportunity to do anything, especially if it involves booze.

Now I'm going to go make a bunch of Dark and Stormies with homemade ginger beer and this rad spiced rum I've never tried, THE KRAKEN. If I don't make it tomorrow, I fully expect you all to track down The Kraken and avenge me.
posted by Juliet Banana at 4:57 PM on July 6, 2010

I am reading China Mieville's new book called, coincidentally, Kraken.
posted by adamdschneider at 7:18 PM on July 6, 2010

Good news everyone! I've released the Kraken!

Even better news: I'll be there, like, crazy early tonight. Like 5:45 early. I really hope I can get one of the coveted "wedged against the wall" spots.

For anyone who hasn't been there before: When you walk in, go downstairs and take a left. As long as there's nobody in our spot, we'll be one table away from the corner. If you come early, it'll be 1 or 2 tables. If you come later, it'll be like 6 tables.

If we're not there, somebody will update the thread and say where we are. You can also look for the table full of nerds. I'll be the nerd in a green striped shirt and grey pants who needs a haircut.
posted by SpiffyRob at 6:20 AM on July 7, 2010

Rob, is this one of those striped shirts you have that is actually checked or plaid?
posted by shakespeherian at 6:23 AM on July 7, 2010

I will most likely be my usual early self. I'll be the one in the cloak preparing the goat skull for tonight's ritual meetup-virgin sacrifice.
posted by evisceratordeath at 7:05 AM on July 7, 2010

Yeah, we'll be there early, as usual, as well. Probably already claiming the "wedged against the wall" spots. Though some times we cheat and set up a couple tables and sit right in the middle of them. I believe this is where I'm supposed to make a joke involving a baby, a corner, and nobody.
posted by Windigo at 7:15 AM on July 7, 2010

I get off megasuper early today (4:15, woo woo) so I suppose I'll be there early as well. For the noobs, you will be able to spot our table by my glowing aura of radiant beauty/hipster douchbagginess.

Since I have plenty of time after work to stroll down there and develop crushes on all the line cooks/give my number out to dudes waiting in line, does anyone want anything from Xoco?

1. Step one, peruse the menu.

2. Step two, pick something out (May I recommend today's special, the pork belly and bacon torta? Shit is pigfection. The milanesa torta is another classic).

3. Text me at 312-sevensevenfive-CAKE or email the address in my profile.

4. Collect your delicious torta from me at Billy Goat.

5. Pay me back; I prefer cash (there's an ATM in the Billy Goat and I have amounts of change in my purse that only a bank teller or stripper could have) but we might be able to work out some trade off in sexual favors. Send a photo and the results of a recent STI checkup with your order if you want to cut a deal.
posted by Juliet Banana at 8:01 AM on July 7, 2010

My shirt is undeniably striped this time. There will be no debating this.

And while I am tempted by the tainted torta, I just can't eat anything other than S+E and boorgers whilst at the Goat. I will probably steal bites from others' tortas, though.
posted by SpiffyRob at 9:13 AM on July 7, 2010

I will be third or fourth last to arrive as usual, and this as far away from the wall as humanly possible.
posted by adamdschneider at 9:15 AM on July 7, 2010

Argh, guys! I might have to bail. I have leave work early to go to the new house to meet a guy about hardwood floors, then I have to go to the apartment to meet a guy about a dripping faucet, then I have to show a girl our apartment and hope she wants to rent it. By then it will be probably 8:00 or so and I don't know if spending an hour getting back downtown will be worth it at that point.

Let the bird-flipping and public shaming commence.
posted by misskaz at 9:28 AM on July 7, 2010

I'd say there's a less than 10% chance of me being able to make it. I have a bunch of fires I need to put out. Have fun and do check out Blue Frog: I want to hear what that place is like on a Wednesday.

I, uh, rented it from gigapedia. I'm about 1/4 of the way through and hooked. I'll buy the paperback when it comes out if it has the cool uneven edges like Perdido Street Station and the Scar. I hate hardbacks.

We haven't gone on a Wednesday yet, have we? Or did I miss it?
posted by eamondaly at 11:26 AM on July 7, 2010

The first time we went (to the real Blue Frog) was at a regular Goat meetup. We also went back there once without you, come to think of it. I was thinking the last time (to the fake one) was a regular meetup, too, because we went from the Goat, but that was post-Giordano's.
posted by adamdschneider at 11:30 AM on July 7, 2010

I mean the fake one: the DJ said it's dead on Wednesdays and we'd pretty much have the place to ourselves.
posted by eamondaly at 12:16 PM on July 7, 2010

We've been to the original at least twice. I know that because the first time I made the mistake of drinking pint-glass screwdrivers 'cause they were so cheap, and I was so traumatized as a result I drank nothing but water and Shirley Temples the second time. I seem to recall a third, but that might've been with other people.

Well, we're not moved in yet, so there is no furniture to sit on or a stereo to play music or anything other than a couple folding chairs and tools. There is beer in the fridge, though (we have our priorities). We do have one room left to paint... hmmm.... Anyone for "Woodlawn Promised Land" (i.e., green) paint all over their clothes?

posted by Juliet Banana at 8:56 AM on July 8, 2010

I wasn't whining, I was merely engaging in self-observation. My hangover has cleared up, and in fact I feel better now than I did yesterday. Drinking is the fountain of youth.

I cannot even tell you how pissed I am that San Francisco, ffs, beat us. This is a wakeup call to step it up and bring our A game next season.

1. Bo and I only have books for and have only ever played 3.5 edition (Forgotten Realms). Is that ok? I missed the discussion about what edition y'all were planning to use.

2. That meetup data was only through December of 2007 and I think we've totally stepped up our game since then already. Not that we couldn't do more...
posted by misskaz at 5:23 PM on July 9, 2010

It'll be 4th. We should have a couple hard copies of the relevant books, and I have PDFs of like everything. It's simpler than 3.5 by a country mile, so you shouldn't find it hard to adapt.
