An Irish wake for Terry Pratchett

Thu April 9 at 7:00 PM, E's Bar
511 Amsterdam Avenue, New York, NY, USA (Map & Directions)
A meetup in the memory of Terry Pratchett. It was great going through his obit thread the other day. Terry's books influenced me a lot and helped me think about so many things in so many new ways. And I think, it would be a good idea to get together to give Terry a hearty, joyous send off. We could all come together, assume names from list of characters from his writings, may be even dress like some of them and discuss, drink and celebrate life, his and our own.
Venue: E's bar in upper west side between 84th and 85th street.

The idea is to drink, reminisce about the joy Sir Terry has brought to us and remember him as we have fun.

The bar provides various board games which we can play. There are couple of dartboards as well. We can also bring our own board games.

I am planning to bring a Discworld The Witches board game.

Plan to arrive a bit early if you want to play this game as one game takes around 90 mins or more.

Also, do confirm if you have any DiscWorld board games that you would like to bring to the meetup.

If you are not aware of Sir Terry's writing or books, this would be a good occasion to find out more about it.

Also, It will also be a good place to exchange or share older Terry Pratchett books which you might have already read and are now ready to share with others.

Kimo Sushi - plenty of room, reasonable price, has sake

I love this idea and I'll come if I can.

Sake sounds great too.

Just a heads up, unless it's a very slow night (nit?) KGB bar fills up fast.

Yeah, KGB is always crowded. Landmark would work during the day, but they have live music booked every night, so that wouldn't work either. And I'm not interested in partying at a sushi place. Are others?

For a board game night, which requires a fair bit of space and a reasonable noise level, I can only think of one place in Manhattan - the Ukrainian dive bar Sly Fox on 2nd and 9th. And that's a maybe unless someone has an in there, they can get kind of cranky.

Otherwise, I can think of:

Freddy's in South Slope
Rocky Sullivan's in Red Hook
Freak Bar in Coney Island
Crescent lounge in Astoria

I'd like to put in a vote for anywhere that isn't too hard to get to from Manhattan. Something like Freddy's is fine, Coney island is a long way to go.

I have a copy of the Ankh-Morpork discworld board game, but I'm not sure how that one lends itself to a pub space. Lots of bits and pieces. Fun though. (ocherdraco I liked it enough when we played that I bought it, so thanks for that.)

This sounds like something that I should attend.

Sorry for the delay everyone. I was trying to find a suitable place where we can play board games.

Aw, I'll be out of town. Have fun!

If I make it I'll be showing up late. Will try to get there.

I have to admit that the only Pratchett book I've read so far is Good Omens. But I haven't been able to get to a meetup in weeks because I was hosting some out-of-town friends for the last two weeks of March, so I may come tonight and poll everyone on what books I should be starting with.

On my way, should be there in half an hour.

I'm sorry, but after my back injury on Sunday, I'm in back pain hell, and I can't make it. :(

This is a huge bummer.

I am bringing the latest Pratchett book raising steam. If you would like to read it, you are welcome to borrow it.

I have a hacking cough that won't go away, so I am sadly staying at home tonight. Apologies, hope everyone has a great time.
