Any public radio or podcasting MeFites gonna be in Chicago for the Third Coast Conference from Nov 11-13 at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place? I'll be in from L.A. representing KCRW. Would be fun to have a lunch / drink / meetup at some point over the weekend, if we aren't already going to be stacked with plans. I haven't even looked at the schedule yet, but just throwing it out there. Would be fun to raise a glass with my fellow producers! (I'm also planning a field trip to the best bookstore in the world.)

So, metafilter favorite "Welcome to Nightvale" is doing a live performance at Largo on October 4th with musical guest Sara Watkins. Guest stars TBA. Tickets on sale this Wed. The exact showtime hasn't be released yet Who wants to go? Maybe get some dinner and drinks first? Ticket details here Ticket Price: $25.00
Seats will be assigned beginning at 6:00pm, Doors open for drinks at 7:00pm, Showtime at 8:00pm.

As detailed in this recent post on the blue, Houston, TX's only independent, free-form radio station is in grave danger of having its transmitter, FCC license and FM frequency sold out from under it. There has been a huge outpouring of student, alumni and community resistance, and there will be a protest on the campus of Rice tomorrow. [more inside]
