The wonderful starlybri was kind enough to organize a recent NYC meet up, and some of us got to talking about how they used to happen more frequently in the city. So overhauser has kindly secured a spot at Lucky's in the East Village for us to gather on Saturday, December 9. The time will be 2-6pm. There will be cheap drinks, and we'd like to do this pot luck style with food! [more inside]
It's finally fall, so why not celebrate with a meetup!? I was thinking McKenna's pub on west 14th would be good. Thursday the 16th at 6pm. I was also thinking about making a biweekly Saturday meetup if anyone's interested. Suggestions for a venue for that are welcome too.
I just can’t even with the news. So that means just one thing: ICE CREAM [more inside]
Anybody interested in seeing Jaws on the big screen at the UPCA? They will begin with a 'beach party', then a Q&A with 2 shark experts. Tickets are $10 online, $15 at the door. If you've never been to the UPCA, it is a beautifully restored movie palace (previously on IRL). [more inside]
I'm in the city and have a four-day weekend open May 5 through 8. yeahlikethat and netaustin are my hosts for various parts of this trip, and I'd love to meet anyone who's game! Work is near the Flatiron, but I'll be staying in Astoria most of the time I'm here. Proposal: Meeting at Haymaker in Chelsea on Saturday, May 6, in the afternoon or evening for drinks and/or a meal. [more inside]
I'm popping down to NYC for a visit and propose drinks. [more inside]
January is here, so, ferret branca and I want to have dim sum with mefites again, at delicious Pacificana in Brooklyn. The more the merrier (and the smaller the final tab, usually), who's in? (previously) (moved to February so as not to coincide with Chinese New Year's Day) [more inside]
I'm in NYC until Saturday morning for RWC 2017, and should be free Thursday/Friday evening, the 5th/6th January. Anyone from the Internet want to meet up and hang out? [more inside]
Coming up on August 21, I will have been a member of this fine site for 10 years. Wow! I've been thinking of taking the anniversary as a nice nudge to get out and see/meet more of you swell NYC Mefites. [more inside]
This Salon ... we're gonna go there ... and talk about political correctness. Come one, come all to freely and gently explore the pros and cons of modern PC. Our next meeting is Friday, July 22, 2016 at 7:30 PM in Brooklyn. [more inside]
Barbeque, Bernie Williams, and metafilter: let's meet at the pedestrian plaza next to the Flatiron Building opposite Madison Square Park at 2PM, and then head to the Big Apple Barbecue Festival. I'm not able to make it to this anymore, but if anyone ends up going, have fun! [more inside]

Beers and conversation (but not too loud!) at our monthly Manhattan stop on the weekly-meetup tour.
Sorry for the late post! I hope to see y'all Thursday evening.
It's back to my neck of the woods this week, as I'm recovering from a pretty gnarly back injury, and I'm trying to keep my travel to a minimum. (Next week we'll venture forth again!)
To quote 1970s Antihero: "Let's meet up and drink beers. Because we're adults and we can."
Edit: We have moved to Perdition, since the Three Monkeys was a madhouse. As suggested by hactar, we're going to try The Three Monkeys in Midtown. Start time this week is 7pm. And as far as I can tell from their website, there will be no terrible open mics.
Edit: We are decamping to one stop beer shop on Kingsland to avoid the open mic here at Boulevard. One more in my new neighborhood before I acquiesce and choose a Manhattan location for next week. I'm setting the starting time for this one at 7, since I'll be coming from work, but I can change it to 6:30pm if others want to start without me.
As discussed at the Keg & Lantern meetup: I'm resurrecting the weekly meetup. This time, it's on Wednesday.
I'm going to be in NYC the weekend of April 25th, and I'd love to organize an outing to the bottle beach at Dead Horse Bay in Brooklyn. Anyone interested? [more inside]
It's been a while. My fiancee and I will be in New York City the evenings of Wednesday, 29 October through Saturday, 1 November. We would love to see the awesome New York MeFites! I'm thinking Revival would be a good place to meet on 8 p.m. on Saturday, 1 November.
We have confirmed a Manhattan meetup on Sat. Oct. 18th! Since I'm in NYC for the weekend I'd like to follow it up with a brunch & beergarden meetup on Sunday, Oct 19th. [more inside]
I'll be visiting gaspode Oct. 18-21 & would love to meet up with NYC MeFites again. So how about Saturday night, October 18th? I'm open to suggestions for venue. ETA Sept. 25: Let's meet at Barcade (their Flatiron location), 8 PM or whenever you get there to join us. Can't wait to meet you all!
Let's get dim sum at Pacificana on Sunday, October 12th. [more inside]
I'm visiting NYC next weekend and would like to finally meet all you lovely folks. Is anyone up for a meetup in the afternoon/early evening of June 15th? Maybe somewhere outdoors- or patio-y to take advantage of the nice weather? I'm staying in Chelsea but am happy to travel wherever on the subway/transit system.
Open to suggestions for time/venue! Zombie Hut at 2 PM on June 15th it is! Join us!
Let's revive the weekly meet up. Next Thursday upstairs at Revival on 15th Street.
A spin off from the other New Years meetup thread. Things that are known: wanting to go to the steam whistles at Pratt; wanting to eat, drink, and be merry beforehand. Things that are unknown: Where and when to eat, drink, and be merry. [more inside]
Have we not had an NYC dim sum meetup since February 2012?! This shall not stand. Chinatown's The Golden Unicorn has been conducive to good meetups before, but, would people like to try Pacificana in Brooklyn's Chinatown for a change? I went there once with family and thought the dim sum was more varied than Golden Unicorn's, but the wait time for a table can be long. -- EDIT - Manhattan wins this round, for Saturday 11/9 at 11am.
Even though Manhattanites are usually outnumbered by Brooklyn folk anyway, LET'S MAKE SURE TO CRUSH 'EM. [more inside]
Proposal: That the NYC dwelling Mefites do take up a great burden and escape the Heated and Tortuous confines of the Concrete Jungle toward the Edenic and Splendid pastorals of Beacon, NY on a Day Trippe on Sunday The 25th of August. The village is reachable via Metro-North and contains Many Sources Of Amusement, such as the DIA: Beacon and humble, Hudson Valley charm. What say you, Urbanites? [more inside]
Last year we walked the length of Broadway in Manhattan. Let's do it again, this time slightly more slowly and possibly with a picnic in Central Park. We will meet on the northeast side of the Broadway Bridge at 225th St at 9am on stop for a picnic lunch in Central Park (location to be determined), and finish at The Battery. [more inside]
I am going to be in Manhattan for four hours or so on Tuesday, March 26. (It's a long story involving really stupid travel logistics and the avoidance thereof.) I know some of y'all NYC people have flexible schedules - come meet me for tater tots/burgers/beer! [more inside]
As I feel eideteker has a number of points concerning the December 9th Meetup, and it's not often that folks from out of town get to see other members of the community, I propose a counter-shindig the same hour and day over at Becco, which is 2 blocks away in Time Square. Thus, in the spirit of civility and diplomacy, the two groups can converge afterward and shake hands. Who's with me, comrades?
So I'm going to be in NYC for a couple of days in October, and I would love to meet some of you crazy cats in person. I know you guys have a lot (a lot!) of meetups - would you be up for one more? [more inside]
I moved up to Greenpoint a few weeks ago, and was really eager to explore my new neighborhood, preferably in the company of a few MeFites. So, I decided to hold a meetup there. NOTE: this will also be the weekly Brooklyn meetup this week. [more inside]
valkyryn and I will be in New York from October 11 - 14 for New York Comic Con. We are giving a panel talk on October 12 at 5pm (related IRL post), but we would also like to meet up outside the convention. Lets' meet up at Lillie's Time Square on the 13th.
Inaugural upper Manhattan meetup. At a beer garden (Bier International)...how bad could it be? We don't even have to talk. We can just drink. [more inside]
I'm turning 100000! It's a base-2 milestone! [more inside]
Manhattanhenge is nigh upon us, time to gather and watch the sunset between the skyscrapers of NYC. The meetup starting point will be at Shake Shack in Madison Square Park (23rd St & Madison) after 6pm. Once we have a quorum of mefites, we can decide when & how far East we want to be at sunset (8:17pm) [more inside]
Anybody else having a dim sum craving? [more inside]
The plan: walk the length of Broadway from 225th St to the Battery on Saturday, October 8th. This is a 13.7 mile walk along one of the oldest streets in the US. [more inside]
