We all know that there’s no such thing as ethical consumption under capitalism, but what does that mean for the rest of our lives? This Drunk Ed show will ask questions like: What are the most cost-efficient crimes? How do you choose between all of your many garbage habits? And is it ethically acceptable for vegetarians to (literally) eat the rich? Talks by Kelli Korducki, John Leavitt (Mefi’s own The Whelk), Anna Merlan, and Eve Peyser. Tickets and information here!

Edit: We have moved to Perdition, since the Three Monkeys was a madhouse. As suggested by hactar, we're going to try The Three Monkeys in Midtown. Start time this week is 7pm. And as far as I can tell from their website, there will be no terrible open mics.
It's been a while. My fiancee and I will be in New York City the evenings of Wednesday, 29 October through Saturday, 1 November. We would love to see the awesome New York MeFites! I'm thinking Revival would be a good place to meet on 8 p.m. on Saturday, 1 November.
I'll be visiting gaspode Oct. 18-21 & would love to meet up with NYC MeFites again. So how about Saturday night, October 18th? I'm open to suggestions for venue. ETA Sept. 25: Let's meet at Barcade (their Flatiron location), 8 PM or whenever you get there to join us. Can't wait to meet you all!

Degenerate Art: The Attack on Modern Art in Nazi Germany, 1937 is an exhibition of work banned and surpressed by the Third Reich. It's being shown at the Neue on the Upper East Side in NYC until June 30th. I think we should see it sometime in April. Like sometime In the second week of April.

SUNDAY THE 29th, We should all hang in the best little bar in Manhattan -- Malachy's. They do a fine, fine Sunday Burger and lots of other pub grub and beer and the like. Let's do this, I'll bring some extra crossword puzzles and everything.
It was recently announced that the 92nd Street Y is officially closing its downtown venue, where "Meet The Lady" and other fine arts programs have had their homes for years. That means that this Friday's installment, Meet The Lady Is Watching You! (a tribute to stalker cinema) is your last chance to catch erstwhile mefite hermitosis's lady-centric variety show, which grew out of a MeFi Project back in 2010 and has since welcomed guests such as Amy Sedaris, Nellie McKay, and Beth Grant. I am going to be in Manhattan for four hours or so on Tuesday, March 26. (It's a long story involving really stupid travel logistics and the avoidance thereof.) I know some of y'all NYC people have flexible schedules - come meet me for tater tots/burgers/beer! [more inside]
So I'm going to be in NYC for a couple of days in October, and I would love to meet some of you crazy cats in person. I know you guys have a lot (a lot!) of meetups - would you be up for one more? [more inside]
The Toshiba screen at One Times Square will be broadcasting live coverage of the Curiosity rover landing on Mars, and my household of MeFites will be in attendance. What about the rest of you?
