Haven't seen some of you in a while, and others of you literally ever, so, heck, let's do something about that on Saturday, July 21st, with a relaxed, no-biggie meetup at my place in North Portland to celebrate 19 years of MetaFilter! Mr. Conspiracy and I are going to be visiting Spokane at the end of July. We're free in the late afternoon and into the evening of Friday, August 3 and I'm wondering if there are any Spokane or Spokane-adjacent MeFites who want to get together for a meetup. Thinking a hangout involving drinks, food and mellow conversation in a reasonably chill venue in/around downtown Spokane. Suggestions welcome - we've visited before and we know there are some great beverages and eats to be had in that town.

We tried and failed to come up with an alternate plan R Bar Chicago (Renaldi's bar annex) for First Wednesday which happens to be this miserable shitheel of a country's birthday celebration.There is no Live Wire karaoke that night, but we think Shakers on Clark in Lakeview/Boystown will have karaoke for those who enjoy. Date Change On Account of Predicted Weather! Now Thursday, July 19 at 6:30 PM! Apropos of the ice cream meetup suggestion, let's meet up for ice cream on Thursday, July 19 at 6:30 PM at the JP Licks on Boylston off of Mass Ave! If the mood strikes, we can head up Newbury Street and sample other ice cream on offer. This will be a weeknight event in Boston proper, counterpart to the Cambridge Weekend Ice Cream Crawl!

A very low-key social partner dance: easy to try for newbies; traditional energetic as well as modern gentle music for the partner dances; an open-role dance for those who like it. From 7:20-8pm we teach a lesson for *total beginners* that will get you through Walking That Counts as Dancing, and give you a try at either rotary waltz or polka, which are gloriously whirly. You don't need to dress up or come with a partner. [more inside]

It's very close to the train station and offers charming food such as "burnt bread with various fillings" as well as an array of beers, whiskeys and fruit wines (and I'm assuming some non-alcoholic beverages as well).

We've spent a lot of time exploring the cuisines of Europe and Asia, but not quite as much in Central America. And yet we're in the unofficial pupusa capital of the US! (As well as the official actual capital of the US.) Let's remedy that with casual Salvadorean comfort food at Ercilia's Restaurant in Mt. Pleasant. [more inside]
