I'll be appearing at Helium Comedy Club in Portland this week, with Tony Deyo and Dan Cummins. Shows are at Thursday, Dec. 2 8pm; Friday, Dec. 3rd, 7:30pm and 10pm; and Saturday Dec. 4th 7:30pm and 10pm. Also, Tuesday, Nov. 30th 8pm I'm hosting the open mic there (no cover charge).

The show consists of film/TV clips, live performances, and ribald entertainments presented variety-show style, hosted by yours truly. My new show, a stage adaptation of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, is getting some very nice reviews. Our opening night was mostly filled with a huge group from the Science Fiction Writers of America, which made me think of (Mefi's own) jscalzi, which made me think of posting this to IRL. My band Red On Strike will be playing this Friday night at The Blue Cafe in Long Beach. We will be going on at 11, with our friends Ware & The Now playing at 10 (they play hip hop with a live band, it's very good.) Supposed to be two other bands but they haven't been booked yet, so I'm not sure what the rest of the night's music wil be like.

Honest Bob and the Factory-to-Dealer Incentives is the band I lead, and we're playing at the lovely Cantab dive bar in Cambridge's Central Square this Saturday! Catchy rock with witty lyrics - you know the drill. 21+, $8. We go on at 11 sharp, but earlier bands look interesting, especially the Cello Chix at 9. My band, The Loom, is playing this great show at the Bowery in NYC. I know that Horsefeathers is a favorite of several mefites. Anais Mitchell is also playing and she's awesome. Come early and see us too! Come say hi before/after/have a drink!

I figure since I consider Thanksgiving to be a great excuse for me to go nuts cooking anyway, I'd see if there are any local Mefites who are - like me - at loose ends family-wise and have no other plans for Turkey Day. My apartment can probably accommodate about 8 people comfortably, but if the response is greater than that and someone has the means (and willingness) to host a larger gathering, that's cool too. We can figure out the exact logistics and time but what I had in mind was an afternoon+early evening potluck sort of thing.

East coast academic, transplanted to the mid-south, seeks Bay area internet nerds for an evening of meetup fun. I will be in SF November 13-16 for the National Communication Association convention and I would love to meet some new Mefites! [more inside]
