The launch party for "The Little Women Cookbook: Novel Takes on Classic Recipes from Meg, Jo, Beth, Amy, and Friends," co-written by MetaFilter's own exceptinsects (more info in this projects post), is Saturday, Nov. 2, at Run for Cover in Ocean Beach. I propose an outing to the bookstore, then a stop at the Kaiserhof's Biergarten. [more inside]

I can't be the only one who often can't make it up to the Portland events. Who else lives in Eugene, Corvallis, the central coast, maybe Salem? It might be really hard to find a winery or brewery here, but we'll manage. [more inside]

Hello FOODIES, we didn't nail down a date and location at the end of our delicious Peruvian dinner at Pisco y Nazca, but my October weekends are quickly filling up so I thought I'd throw something on the calendar. Let's head to Bombay Street Food in Columbia Heights. Unlike many of our locations, I've been here before several times and highly recommend it for street food dishes rarely seen in our corner of the US like kati rolls and pav bhaji, plus items from Indo-Chinese cuisine and the most delicious "cutting chai". This location does not take reservations, but I've found it's pretty quiet toward the beginning of the weekend lunch hour. Show up early, help us corner some tables, and we should be good to go! My calendar says we're due for the October knitting/crafting meetup this weekend. City Bakery should be open again this month. We are mostly knitters, all portable crafts welcome. EDIT: Postponed one week to the 20th. [more inside]

Well! Let me recalibrate the taste-level of this IRL post by cordially inviting you all to meet up at the Museum of Fine Arts on Wednesday evening, October 16, at 7PM (free admission, donations accepted). Let's gather at the Taste Café in the Linde Family Wing for Contemporary Art, Level 1, at 7PM, wait about 10-15 minutes for people to show up, and then meander from there. The MFA's open until 10PM, but don't feel like you have to wander around for three hours. [more inside]
