It is $4 a ticket, they serve beer and wine in the theater, has big comfy seats, and will be their last hurrah on 35mm film before they transition to digital this April.

I've realized I've not seen a single one of these on film in a theater before, and others may not have seen them either, so lets make a meetup out of it.

I would drive down to Portland to see Wrath of Khan on film.

2001 for sure. Chinatown is playing next week, too!

I'd be up for at least a couple of those.

Oh man. I'm such a snob that my first thought was "2001...on only 35mm?" But it'd be great to see it on the big screen again in any case. Raiders and Kahn too.

Do we know which day/time each movie will be playing?
posted by nickthetourist at 10:07 AM on January 26, 2012

I believe the last time they did a BAM fest, the entire theatre was booked for all the movies, so each movie was shown every night. They should be updating their schedule tomorrow it looks like.

Into it. Interesting selection of movies, that.

It looks like they haven't updated the time listings yet, I just emailed the address I have for them to see if they are going to be showing the movies every night during the fest, or if its going to be a one classic a night thing.

Keep us posted.

Seen 2001 too many times. Would love to see 2010 in a theater.

Ok, from their Facebook page, it looks like they will be filling the entire marquee the 3rd to the 9th, as in all of those movies will be playing nightly throughout the week.

BAM Fest 2012 starts Friday featuring 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KAHN, THE UNTOUCHABLES, CONAN THE BARBARIAN and BOOGIE NIGHTS daily Feb 3-9

Do we want to pick a night, and then plan on getting there around 7, with time to get food and drinks in the neighborhood before going to the movie of our choice?
posted by mrzarquon at 8:21 AM on January 31, 2012

Well, not the 5th, since some of us will already be ignoring the Superbowl that evening. But otherwise that sounds like a plan.

Okay! I got the Full List, that includes Start and Exit times, so we can really min/max the hell out of this.

2001 6:30p
Boogie 9:25p

Let's do this thing. I'd be available any aft/eve next week.
posted by Greg_Ace at 1:43 PM on February 1, 2012

Because I have nothing to do tomorrow, I'm thinking I'll be ambitious and do the 1:30 Raiders, the 4:45 Untouchables, the 7:15 Khan, and the 9:40 Conan. I figure by Conan, I'll have enough beers in me to sack a village or two.

So if anyone wants to go to any of those shows, I'll see you there!

Oh man I am so excited about this shit
posted by maqsarian at 1:34 PM on February 3, 2012

Ha, do they put 2001 so early so that you don't fall asleep during it? Good idea!
posted by Secretariat at 2:32 PM on February 3, 2012

I only wish they were starting in the morning, I'd spend a workday Moddin' From The Movies.

May I suggest a double feature of Star Trek 2 and Conan next Weds? It gives us a 30 minute break between the two movies, enough to grab a quick non pizza bite in the hood if folks are interested.
posted by mrzarquon at 2:57 PM on February 3, 2012

Boy, they sure did raid that lost ark! Now, a sandwich, and then I will find out why no one may touch those young fellows.

Perhaps they are MC Hammer afficionados

mrzarquon, I second that suggestion.

Not really, the shifts seem to change pretty frequently. But the ticket guy was all like, "I knew SOMEONE would come and hang out all day!"

Also, drunk Wrath of Khan is the fucking best.
posted by maqsarian at 9:11 PM on February 3, 2012

They shouldn't have put a bar right next to this place you guys

Say what, now? I-I'm not following your reasoning here!

For a second I thought this bar was playing a Wilco song but it was actually Janis Joplin. Whch, you know, okay, but still a bit disappointed

All right, here comes Conan! I haven't seen this since I was twelve. I had forgotten abou the nietszche quote.

I saw 2001 last night, which was great. The copy of the film they had was kind of beat up, but that didn't really bother me. I saw lots of neat details I never noticed on a smaller screen. They cut short the intermission, which meant that everyone assumed it actually would be an intermission and ran out to buy more beer and use the bathroom, and then we come back and oh crap, there's an astronaut flying off into space!

There was also this lady next to me who made seemingly involuntary "hmm!" sounds every time something interesting, weird, or cute (?) happened. She also said aloud "funny!" and "cute." once. Which... I like 2001, and there's some funny odd, or funny quirky moments, but never really funny ha-ha, at least if you take it in context of the film.

What the movie does have is a lot of thought provoking moments, which can lead to a stream of: "hmm. Hmm! hmmm.... hm. Hmm. hm." for minutes at a time.

I'm planning to get there around 6:45 and grab a bite before the 7:15 movie, if anyone cares to join me.
posted by Greg_Ace at 12:08 PM on February 8, 2012

Hm. Oh, cute!

(It wasn't even the baby monkey towards the start! Maybe it was... the little girl? But she wasn't that cute.)
posted by Secretariat at 3:08 PM on February 8, 2012

What kind of bite are you thinking of grabbing?
posted by cortex at 3:10 PM on February 8, 2012

The GF and I were thinking about going to Over&Out for dinner around 6:15 or so. They have Elk Burgers.
posted by mrzarquon at 3:16 PM on February 8, 2012

The tasty-food-in-my-mouth kind.... I was just going to get there and have a look around, see what struck my fancy; mrzarquon's suggestion looks as good as any.
posted by Greg_Ace at 3:59 PM on February 8, 2012

I'd be up for that, I might have trouble making it there by 6:15 though.
posted by cortex at 4:16 PM on February 8, 2012

At the over and out.

All the food is good in the hood Greg. But I avoid roscoes out of the fact the owners are assholes.

Despite maqsarian's example, I wasn't drunk enough to get into Ah-nuld's "acting". But otherwise a fun night!
posted by Greg_Ace at 12:59 AM on February 9, 2012

Fun indeed! And boy that Khan print was terrible. I think Conan must have soaked it in the blood of his enemies after having them driven before him.
posted by cortex at 6:27 AM on February 9, 2012

Yeah, the concession guy warned me about the Khan print before I went in. I found that if you squint really hard, space looks almost black, and not bright pink.
posted by maqsarian at 1:42 PM on February 11, 2012

I've realized my brain had merged the two Conan movies, and it was "The Destroyer" that was apparently less sucky one. Or atleast, didn't comprise of 80% of them running everywhere and creating backstory.
