I'm totally up for this.

So down for this! I have no suggestions except for 'Brooklyn'.

AWESOME. lalex, this is great. We are going to beat everyone at everything.

This is a capital idea.

Where should we have a trivia team?

Rocky Sullivan's.

In Manhattan I like the Wed. Crocodile Lounge one; in Brooklyn I haven't tried any of these but it looks promising.

It would be great if either/both borough locations are near an express subway stop.

I love trivia.

Oooh, I would love to join in! Though I would vote for Manhattan as a more central location for folks - I'm so far out in Queens that the idea of going to Red Hook makes me want to cry.
posted by Neely O'Hara at 6:53 AM on January 26, 2012

I would totally go; preference for Brooklyn if possible.
posted by mlle valentine at 7:39 AM on January 26, 2012

No! Manhattan!

Also, I suck at trivia. But I'll bring pom poms.
posted by functionequalsform at 8:35 AM on January 26, 2012

There's a pretty great pub quiz on Thursdays nights at Rocky Sullivan's in Red Hook.

http://www.rockysullivansredhook.com/quiz.html

And Thursdays work much better than Wednesdays for me, now that school has started again.

Also, isn't this supposed to be the Brooklyn meetup? Quit asking us to go to Manhattan!

Oops. I missed the Empress link. Great minds and all that.

I prefer Manhattan, but weeknights are generally hard for me (and Brooklyn is pretty much impossible during the week). Have to wake up at 5am and all. So I don't really carry any weight. But I still love you guys and will happily be your phone-a-friend if it's before 9pm.

(also, hey, I have a show tomorrow night—and almost every Friday until April—PM me for details! Subject line: "Secret Show!" Shhhhh...)

I would love to get in on some trivia. Count me in!
posted by defenestration at 9:36 AM on January 26, 2012

Also, I vote Brooklyn.
posted by defenestration at 9:37 AM on January 26, 2012

We can maybe do one for Brooklyn and one for Manhattan. Maybe? The more the merrier, I say.
posted by bookwibble at 9:44 AM on January 26, 2012

Brooklyn is quite far for me. Can we alternate between Manhattan and Brooklyn? I'm not even going to try to suggest the Bronx.
posted by sciencegeek at 10:35 AM on January 26, 2012

Westchester, then. It's settled.
posted by the young rope-rider at 2:47 PM on January 26, 2012

Seriously, though, I think Manhattan within easy(ish) reach of the J/M and/or L train would be good because then there are Brooklynites who could easily make it. Me and some of my F train peeps, not so much though :(

Also, I miss some of you!

Maybe alternating weeks is a good idea. I will think on it.

(To be clear this will be in addition to the Weekly Brooklyn Meetup, not instead of!)

Last Exit (in Brooklyn, obviously) has Pub Quiz on the first and third Mondays of the month. Teams of four people, though. Disclaimer: it's my regular bar.
posted by 1970s Antihero at 6:02 AM on January 27, 2012

I only recommended Rocky's as it's my second-favorite bar and I know the Quizmaster (my favorite bar does not do a pub quiz, and its status as "my favorite" has much to do with "it is on my block", so there is a bias). But transport is going to be an issue for anyone who wants to come in out of Manhattan or Bronx.

For Brooklyn: I know there's another quiz at The Sackett, which is a block from the Union Street stop on the R - but that place is teeny-tiny. Last Exit seems a promising alternate.

For Manhattan: I know there's a place on 14th and somethingth that has a quizmaster named "Liam", who is aweseome (he used to be at Rocky's when it was located in Manhattan, and had to find another venue because the commute to Red Hook was an issue for him too). Don't remember the name of the bar, but will nudge my friends who do.

There was a bar with a good trivia night I had in mind...but I can't remember if it was a real bar or a dream I had.

*Head scratch*

I guess a bar in a dream wouldn't work for this, right?

Yeah, thought not.

I'd like to be a part of this, once/if it happens. OK. If it has to be in Brooklyn, I'm going to request it be G-convenient, please.

I am into this. I am fantastic at trivia!!

(If the questions are about things I know about...like um, well....hmm. Maybe I am not so great at trivia).

Brooklyn Tavern is off the Q/N/R/B/D/A/C/F/G/2/3/4/5 and has a backyard. Their drinks are fine, nothing special, and cheap. Trivia night is Tuesdays.
posted by (Over) Thinking at 4:16 PM on January 28, 2012

I'd love to be a part of this but work past 8 most nights. Let me know if the eventual night selected has a start time that late.
posted by vrakatar at 4:34 PM on January 28, 2012

I am interested in this.

Since people are chiming in with days and interest -- Wednesdays are generally bad for me (although EVERYTHING is bad for me until mid-February as I'm recovering from a broken foot).
posted by EmpressCallipygos at 5:53 PM on January 29, 2012

I can generally do every day except Tuesdays.
posted by bookwibble at 7:48 PM on January 29, 2012

I'd vote no Tuesdays as well. Brooklyn is my preference, but I'd be cool with Manhattan too.

Oh hey look, listings of Manhattan and Brooklyn trivia nights.

I've heard good things about Last Exit's bimonthly Monday trivia night, but it's $5. Location is Brooklyn Heights.

Cash Cab has been known to come around looking for contestants at times at this long-running trivia night (oh and by the way, Cash Cab isn’t a real cab). The questions are not easy and the competition is harder. Other fun elements include the “Last Exit Theater” where the hosts read a script and contestants must guess which movie it’s from. Subscribers to the email list (LastExitPubQuiz@gmail.com) receive notices of the upcoming quizzes and a clue to one of the answers.

That is the one I wish to do. Also I will start a trivia scholarship for needy mefites.
posted by the young rope-rider at 11:00 AM on February 1, 2012

How bout we try that one, and if it sucks, try a different one? The next one is coming up this Monday.

Teams are limited to four people. That's ok with basically any number of attendees except five. That would kind of suck.
posted by showbiz_liz at 6:32 AM on February 2, 2012

If we do decide to do it at that bar, can we have it on a different Monday? Or at least do another one again fairly soon? I have book club this coming Monday, and I don't want to miss this.
posted by bookwibble at 9:32 AM on February 2, 2012

Well, since it's only every other Monday, I figure we should go ahead and check it out this coming week.
posted by showbiz_liz at 9:40 AM on February 2, 2012

I think I could do Monday!
posted by mlle valentine at 12:54 PM on February 2, 2012

Well, even if it works (or not) is this going to be at least a semi-regular thing? That way, those who can't make it can easily do so the next time, whether it's at Last Exit or not.

Also: what time is Last Exit's trivia? I might be able to do it this coming Monday if it runs late.
posted by bookwibble at 1:07 PM on February 2, 2012

Last exit trivia starts at 9pm, registration at 8:30. They also have a clue up for tonight's contest. I'm guessing it's a member of the Giants celebrating?
posted by whir at 1:38 PM on February 6, 2012

Okay, I can completely not come tonight due to an existential crisis (and a cold).

If anyone else wants to take the lead on this could you post another IRL post? I want to leave this one open for brainstorming.
posted by the young rope-rider at 1:51 PM on February 6, 2012

Can't come tonight unfortunately—last minute change of plans. I would definitely go in the future, though.
posted by mlle valentine at 4:41 PM on February 6, 2012

Like I said, Last Exit is my regular bar. I'm sitting at the end of the bar near the entrance, next to the scary clown lamp. I'm also ready to DESTROY the competition.
