Mrs. schyler523 and I are moving to the area in early February and it would be nice to have a nice pint and whatnot. We'll likely be too busy to hang out until the 15th or so, but any date after that is probably fine. We're familiar with Jack of the Wood (our favorite bar) and the beergarden, but other ideas would be welcomed.
I'd be down for this once a concrete date is set. Arcade is a blast and most games are free for now.

Arcade Asheville sounds fun! I'll have a better idea of a concrete date once we're done moving...but in reality our schedule is really flexible.

Arcade is really fun but they have a big free dance party that starts at 10 pm on Fridays and it gets crowded and noisy as hell really quickly after that. However though I'm up for it probably, wherever, whenever, welcome to Asheville!

I'll try to keep an eye on this and will attend if possible. What the hell is Arcade Asheville? I obviously don't get out enough. Or read the paper or watch the local news.

The Barcade is cool, but I wouldn't step foot in there on a weekend night after 9ish - they needed to spread their demographic around, and managed to capture the rare and much valued UNCA DoucheBag demo.
I would humbly suggest that the French Broad Chocolate Lounge would be a nice venue - depending on the day. I manage the place, and therefore could get us some perks such as private seating and line-skipping. We serve beer and wine as well as all sorts of tasty local, organic desserty things.
Other options would definitely include Jack of the Wood (though again, packed to hell on certain nights), 5 Walnut Wine Bar (fantastic local wine bar that is attached to a gallery! on the small side though, so might be out if its already full) or perhaps Blend, a cash-only hookah bar in downtown (only offering herbal sheesha, so don't worry about a room full of tobacco smoke).
I'll keep up on this thread, and be there fo sho!

Oh, and Red Loop - Arcade Asheville (or the Barcade in common parlance) is a new combination bar and arcade - as you may have guessed. First floor is some classic and mostly broken arcade games like Dig Dug, Tron, Donkey Kong, Road Blasters, etc. The bar is first floor as well, and has nice local beer on draft and full alcohol. Their food is cool if you don't care about food ethics - it's mostly like a stoner raided a Sysco truck.
Second floor is where it's at: Many many more games, more modern ones too, including everything from Mortal Kombat / Street Fighter up to Time Crisis and Cruisin USA (several racing games, actually, set up for Co-op play), a Wii, and the highlight of the room, a Kinect. Wii and Kinect are both full wall projected and are a riot with friends.
Its a fun spot to spend some time, but much like some major amusement parks I could name, much more fun when its on the empty side and damn near madness-inducing when its slammed.

Oh, forgot to mention the coolest thing: They have two NESs at the bar on hooked up to flatscreens - with a freaking Cartridge Menu. That's right. With tasting notes and descriptions of the games. This is the best freaking part of the whole thing. I was able to utter the following sentence: "I'll have a double Basil Hayden, neat with a coke back, and Battletoads please".
And then proceeded to sit there, sippin bourbon, and ridin some hoverbikes. Awesome.

Oh God, I totally second the chocolate lounge. I had no idea we had an embedded mefite! It ain't on the cheap side, but it is fabulous and always ethically sourced. Still haven't been to Arcade yet, tho.

That actually sounds perfect.....maybe a 6:30-ish meetup time at the Barcade, moseying over to the Lounge later on maybe around 9 ish?
If this was on a Monday - Thursday, that would be ideal as well w/r/t business traffic and optimal comfort.
