San Franciscans, Ms Jest and myself will be visiting your city and would love to meet up for drinks etc. Per suggestions downthread, let's say the Latin American Club at 7pm.
Haven't been to an IRL but would love to. Let me know time/place.

Sounds like the 20th is good for a few people then. I would prefer somewhere where we're able to have a conversation (my hearing isn't too good) and ideally seats, but I guess that might be difficult on Friday night. We're staying reasonably central so the Mission might be a good idea, but I'm sure we can travel.
We're late 30s so a mixed/older crowd night be better, but no big deal. Intrigued by the concept of a dive, but not totally sure what you mean, smirkette :-)

I have walked past frjtz on Hayes and it smelled delicious. (For some reason I've never noticed delicious smells coming from the one in the Mission, and I've never been to either.)

Blackbird is great, but every time I've been it's been loud and crowded.
There was a bar + burrito meetup in the past at Mission Bar, which apparently went well (I wasn't there, I was just looking for ideas. Oh actually I think there's been 2 there). It is very well situated burrito-wise.
The Make-Out Room would be good although there is "VERSION EXCURSION! FREE!" at 9 and I have no idea if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
I am also a personal fan of the Latin American Club, and it's usually been pretty chill. However I haven't been there in a while so grain of salt.

It seems that VERSION EXCURSION! is a band, so I suspect it would be a bad thing from the "able to hear people talk" perspective.
I'm not coming up with any place that serves non-beer alcohol and is also relatively quiet, unless we can be outside.

2nded: Latin American Club would fulfill most criteria of liquor, beer, and burritos nearby. The Argus might be a bit quieter and also has decent Mexican food. Playa Azul is a Mexican seafood place with a good tequila selection and lots of seats. Downsides are that it's a bit south of the 24th BART and is prone to mariachi invasions.
I think we'll be taking our chances with loud and crowded anywhere on a Thursday.

I meet with a group every 2 months on Thursday night at the Latin American club and we've rarely had a problem with it being crowded.
We usually get there around 6:30 or 7:00 and just take over the back and the stage and it works out pretty well.

I would love to make it! Whether or not I CAN may depend a little bit on this trip to the doctor I'm taking tomorrow to figure out whether or not this rib is cracked, if I'll be on painkillers and not very good company, etc.
If I'm unable to tell you guys there in person, order the margaritas. They basically take a pint glass, fill it with ice, pour over that to ~1cm from the top with booze, and squeeze some fresh limes over it. Mmmmmm. (Even if they weren't relatively cheap (considering what they're made of), it wouldn't take you many anyway)

Am sad that I can't make it (will be in class)! Also am seconding cobra_high_tigers' advice; additionally, do note that the drinks are strong. Two and you will be feeling no pain.

It does not serve food. Cancún is just down Mission between 18th and 19th, and Farolito is just up Mission between 23rd and 24th.
