I could do lunch on Monday 10

Hmm, I barely know what I'm doing for New Year's. Lunch might be doable on the 10th, depending on work crap. The evening of the 10th, though is out as it's my birthday.

other suggestions welcome? Come on, guys - this is an exceptional opportunity. No Rome meetup since 2007, as far as I can tell...

I'm just responding because this is the closest mefi meetup I've heard of (within 300 miles of me?) ... anyone want to come over here to Turkey afterward?

I'm up for lunch on Monday 10. Shall we make this official?

Sure. We're already 2½! Don't think I can make it to Turkey, though, much as I'd like to see the Pudding Shop again...

Hi Aqsakal,
Before I can confirm I need a venue. I'm fine with anything you all suggest. Turkey is out with me as well.

There's a great place called Disco Volante (Flying Saucer), via Alessandria 50, five minutes on foot from either Piazza Fiume or Porta Pia, both well served by public transport. Excellent pizzas, but also à la carte for those who don't want to eat pizza. Sardinian specialities like roast piglet. If nobody has a better suggestion, I'd recommend it. No word yet from several other nearbies, like elpapacito, 3mendo, daniel striped tiger, progosk....

If everyone's happy with flying saucers, I can book a table, but final (or even semi-final) numbers would be useful.

On for Disco Volante. I'll confirm it now and discuss more later.

Ciao folks - so sorry I'm out of town for the week.
Buona pizza, and buon compleanno to romakimmy!

12:00 PM? Is that midnight or noon?
posted by 3mendo at 1:59 AM on January 4, 2011

12:00 is very early in Rome - the waiters will still be eating their own pre-opening lunch. Let's make it 13:00 instead, which is more Roman.

Done. Do we want to make it even later?
posted by Xurando at 7:01 AM on January 4, 2011

The location is excellent (like 4 mins from my office, yay!) and I could come on the 10th. Also 1300 is perfect for it's usually the lunch break time for many. Alternatively we could move it to late afternoon (1800-19) or to dinner (2000-2100) and see if that's ok for more people.

I'll pass by there tomorrow morning and book a table for 6 or so for 13:00. They know me and won't worry if there are more or less of us.

And happy birthday romakimmy in case you don't make it for greetings in person.

Hey, thanks for triggering it! Glad you enjoyed it - I did too. Hope you found the Coppedè quarter interesting and visit-worthy. Check out also the Garbatella area. Bests.
