Sun November 22 at 12:00 PM, The Pawn
62 Johnston Rd, Wan Chai, Hong Kong (Map & Directions)
Hi HK MeFites! For reasons that are dull and boring, I'll be in HK for 36 hours with very little do on 21 and 22 November. So, let's have a meetup at the Pawn (lunch and a few drinks) in Wanchai. Looking forward to meeting you guys.
I'll need to get back to the airport by about 4:30 pm to catch my plane home, but that shouldn't be much of a problem. Yay for HK trains!

I'm hoping a few of you will be able to make it - I go through HK every couple of years, but I haven't met any of the HK MeFites.

Happy to meet for lunch/brunch on the 22nd. I'm in Sheung Wan, so anything on HKI is fine. Any ideas what you would like to try for food?

Sorry, mate, I will be in Thailand at that time.

Hope one of the boys/girls raises their hand.

Safe trip.

I'm based in Shenzhen but can travel to HK on the 21st/22nd.

I'm easy - I'm always up for yum cha, but Sydney has a pretty massive Cantonese population so it's not like I've been deprived. Happy to take suggestions.

For me? You're too kind!

Well, Hong Kong has pretty much everything.

We can definitely find yum cha. I can ask about the best places in Wan Chai.

Alternatively, the Pawn in Wan Chai is nice and pretty relaxed-- a restored 19th century shop house serving a mix of food, although mostly modern British comfort food. But it isn't local local by any means.

Haven't seen any Shenzhen mefites yet, so my best bet is HK. Don't worry, I go there quite often. Modern British comfort food sounds perfect!

The Pawn sounds like a cool joint. I'm up for it.

OK, so should I confirm this? The Pawn at, say, noon?
posted by His thoughts were red thoughts at 2:11 AM on November 16, 2015

Can we do noon the Saturday? I'll be in HK in the morning anyway.

We can! I might be a bit dead, I get in at 5 am.

Frumiousb will Saturday work for you?
posted by His thoughts were red thoughts at 12:30 AM on November 17, 2015

I can't do Saturday I'm afraid (sorry for the late response, I'm traveling for work right now.) But if that works better for everyone, go ahead.

Hmmm.

OK. Fix, if you're OK with Sunday, let's do Sunday so that frumious can also attend. It also works better for me as I won't have to battle exhaustion; I get off the plane at 5am on Saturday.

Ah ok, let's do Sunday.

Thanks, fix. I appreciate it. I'll lock this in.

Great, see you then and looking forward. :-)

Shall I call and book the Pawn, by the way?
posted by frumiousb at 5:56 AM on November 19, 2015

(Probably not necessary, but may be good to be safe...)

Ooh, yes please.

Great, see you all on Sunday:)

Okay, a small problem. I booked online, but the Pawn just called me and they no longer have lunch on Sunday-- they've changed to brunch only-- and then with a fixed price of 498 per person. Furthermore, we can't be seated at 12, but only at either 11 or 1:30.

Can both of you let me know you saw this? Very sorry, I didn't realise they'd had a format change. I will memail both of you my contact information and if all else fails I will be standing outside the pawn to intercept and we can go somewhere else. I'm the middle aged blonde peering around anxiously.

Ok! Message recieved. Meet at 12 at the Pawn, and we'll relocate. I'll defer to local expertise.

I'm a brown dude with a short beard and glasses, and I'll wear a maroon tshirt with a three headed dog on it (it's the most noticable thing I have with me).

Thanks again for a lovely afternoon. Hopefully I can return the favour some day.
