Lunch Ups
posted July 20, 2014 8:15 PM   RSS

This is the thread where we figure out a workable plan for monthly lunch meetups!
Seems like most folks are Loopish and I think 1:00pm is probably best to avoid the worst of the crowds. We can either stick to Pierogi Heaven or talk through some suggestions.

Anyone work in Lincoln Park who wants to do a monthly (or more) Lincoln-Park Lunch?

I'm Lincoln Park! Racine and Armitage.

I am agin' doing this on Fridays, but so are other folks. My schedule for the rest a given week is a bit erratic in terms of lunch commitments, but I'm generally free.

Thanks for planning this. I vote for either and I have a new job that actually will allow lunch breaks.

I know it's more work, but I'm pro rotating venues.

I am also pro rotating venues, pro readery New job, and a possible Lincoln Park luncher.

I'm totally willing to facilitate lunch venues, and make executive decisions, even when not attending.

crush is the lunchroom supervisor.

I am open to any venue. As an inveterate leftover luncher, just going somewhere is a new fascinating adventure.

Looks like second Tuesdays have the slight advantage. Here are some potential lunch places:
Halsted Street Deli (I'm thinking the State Street location, next to the Chicago Theatre)
The State Street Field's Macy's food court
Oasis Cafe (21 N Wabash Ave Ste 11--through the jewelry market)
Pierogi Heaven (Wells, between Lake and Randolph)
Lunch under the Picasso--there's a Pret a Manger and a Qdoba and doubtless other things near Daley; we could BYOL and sit in the plaza on a day where there's no event.

The Goat is always an option, of course. Unfortunately I believe the Pierogi Wagon does Hyde Park on Tuesdays; Clark and Monroe on Wednesdays.

I'll make my first executive decision before Tuesday the 4th and get this posted by then

Hoorah!

Once this gets rolling, it should end up relatively easy for anyone interested to make a lunch up just like anyone can make a goat post, the only difference is there's a chose of lunch spot instead of always the goat.

Late suggestion: The Berghoff Café. Points in favor: sloppy joes, quiche.

I am infinitely closer (read: ~10 mins) to the other Pierogi Heaven, if we can get that one into the mix. I'm also kind of curious about the Ceres Cafe.

Cafecito Cafecito Cafecito!

The past couple times I've tried to go to that place (granted, it was noonish) there's been a Hot Doug's sized line. I'll probably keep trying because it's fucking delicious.

I won't cast a vote because I won't be able to make these in general, but if there's ever one on a Thursday earlier in the day I'd be down.

The line is a feature, not a bug. You get to mack on cute hipster boys while waiting for your delicious sandwich.
posted by phunniemee at 7:19 PM on July 27, 2014

Though I can see how that might be more of a niche interest.

I actually don't know what the optimal lunch spot radius is. I'm up near Water Tower, and I know a few people are south of the Library, but I'm working on the assumption most interested people are bounded by the L loop. If this is not the case, let me know.

Also, like garlic said, once we have a few lunch ups, I assume other people will start posting when it gets close, so we'll have collective knowledge working in our favor for venues.

This...had not occurred to me.
