Meet The Lady: Fortunetellers!

Thu October 28 at 8:00 PM, 92YTribeca
200 Hudson St, New York, NY, USA (Map & Directions)
This is a monthly screening/exhibition inspired by the Meet The Lady tumblr blog (a former MetaFilter Project and FPP). The show consists of film/TV clips, live performances, and ribald entertainments presented variety-show style, hosted by yours truly. This month we're showcasing cinema's most bizarre and entertaining fortunetellers.
Author Jewell Parker Rhodes will read an excerpt of her new novel Ninth Ward. Frederick Woodruff of AstroInquiry will opine on what the stars can tell us about Grey Gardens' Edith Bouvier Beale.

Come dressed as your favorite lady and you'll receive 5ml of a limited edition fragrance by gothic perfumer Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab (a company which sponsors several of my web exploits).

92YTribeca is very close to the A,C,E,1,N,Q,R, and W trains. There's a cafe attached to the screening room that sells food, beer, and wine which you can bring into the screening room. Let's hang out!

I might be there in costume. Possibly. Won't be a lady costume though. But I won't be doing it for the perfume. I'll be doing it because I like costumes and I have no solid Halloween plans.

I plan to bring my tarot decks.

My office is having a Halloween party on the 28th starting at 5pm -- gotta see what outfit I can cobble together that would be both a fortune-teller costumer and work-appropriate. I've got a Norse mythology-themed Tarot deck, but I don't think I have any Norse-mythic outfits.

Ha! Really any lady will do for a prize, oh yeah! Though going the extra mile and coming as an actual fortune teller is going to probably get you plenty of special attention :)

I have completed my Miss Cleo costume. If you want to see me looking a hot mess, and in "drag" (as drag as I ever get, I suppose), DO NOT MISS THIS EVENT.

UPDATE: It is now an AWARD-WINNING Miss Cleo costume. If you miss this, you will be fined One (1) Internet.
