Friday as in tomorrow (22 February) Friday?

Yup. 22nd.

Hey! You're a person on the internet I'd be interested in meeting! Sadly, my schedule makes Friday not happening for me, but Sunday brekkits would be neat! Especially if it's in or around the Mission or Castro.

Good luck on your awards thing!

I'm a definite maybe for at least one, but I am not really awake yet and gingerbeer is really not awake so this is here to remind me!

I have a bad track record following through lately, but Sunday breakfast is a definite possibility. Late tonight might be doable too.

Oh, drat! Me and the Boy are weekending in Sonoma. Woulda been fun.

If a meetup materializes tonight I'd be interested in going after Critical Mass. I wish I could tell you what part of the city we'll end up in, but that's part of the fun.

I wouldn't be able to make it tonight, but I would try to get to brunch! I love brunch.
posted by Snarl Furillo at 1:41 PM on February 22, 2013

Tonight, I'll be around Mission and 16th; on Sunday I wake up at the Fairmont. Good places to get a drink (whiskey?) around Mission and 16th? Good places to get breakfast/brunch around the Fairmont (950 Mason)?
posted by klangklangston at 1:57 PM on February 22, 2013

Brunch at AQ is awesome, reasonably close to where you're staying (15 minute walk?), and reasonably priced.

Since 5:30 this morning I feel like I've been hit by a truck (apparently my co-workers are unaware of my requirement that Fridays be slow and quiet and undemanding), so I'm even iffier on tonight, though it's not yet a "heck no."

Dalva is a bar that's between Mission and Valencia on 16th. I can't think off the top of my head what their whis(e)y collection is like, but they do make a good cocktail, so they have a decent range of booze. They also have a teeny back room ("The Hideout") where artisinal cocktails happen.
posted by rtha at 2:34 PM on February 22, 2013

Southpaw BBQ has a good whiskey selection. If you want to wander closer to our end of the Mission, Mission Bar is the Mefi standard meetup spot, best known for not being crowded on a weekend evening.

Oh boo we have plans tonight and I don't know if we can make a Sunday morning. And I agree that you are someone I want to meet IRL! I'll keep an eye on this thread in case I can make anything that gets planned.

See, I can't even type "whisk(e)y" correctly.

By the way, we have all-day brunches.
posted by Pronoiac at 5:40 PM on February 22, 2013

Yeah, okay, so it's 9 pm and we have no shoes but we do have jammies so we're not leaving the house. Sorry, klang.

But Sunday. Does The Ramp sound good? It's a block from a T Third stop. Seating is mostly outdoors and Sunday is supposed to be cool but sunny, but the last time we were there, on an overcast and chilly day, they even brought us blankets if we wanted. Their pitchers of brunchy drinks are good. Food is good. Thoughts?

I'm way up in the North Bay tonight and I have to go to a conference on Sunday morning. I'm new to SF and wanted to come to a meetup, but this is like the worst possible coincidence of events. D:
posted by subbes at 9:04 PM on February 22, 2013

Yeah, tonight gets the kibosh if only because the spare key I've got here doesn't actually work to open the deadbolt without a good twenty minutes of loud futzing.

So: Sunday brunch. AQ is looking pretty tight, honestly. I'm still figuring out transit, but that looks like it's an easier get from the Fairmont.
posted by klangklangston at 10:39 PM on February 22, 2013

Likely you're taking the cable car from the Fairmont to Powell and then getting on Muni Metro, although you could walk from Powell to AQ pretty easily (W on Market, L on 7th). Or hop a T to the Ramp. You likely do want to make reservations at AQ. We have walked in there before, but only right when they open.
posted by gingerbeer at 10:45 PM on February 22, 2013

Klang if I were you I'd just walk to AQ. 20 minutes max and it's all downhill, through a fairly interesting part of town. (I tried to link a map, but I'm not getting any awards.)

Anyway, if it turns out to be AQ Sunday morning, I will most likely show up to congratulate or console.
posted by trip and a half at 12:46 AM on February 23, 2013

Oh the Ramp is cool, too! I could show up there.
posted by trip and a half at 12:55 AM on February 23, 2013

I just mentioned this to Pirate-Bartender-Zombie-Monkey and got a "hey now!"

What time(ish) would this be on Sunday?
posted by Lexica at 10:52 AM on February 23, 2013

The Ramp is awesome and super-special, SF-style. Never been to AQ but am open to whatever.
posted by foxy_hedgehog at 3:15 PM on February 23, 2013

Let's just do Ramp, around 10am if that works for folks. I don't have the energy to stress over reservations.
posted by klangklangston at 4:27 PM on February 23, 2013

And instead of going to SFMOMA like I hoped today, I spent all day dealing with faulty keys at the joiint I was crashing at.
posted by klangklangston at 4:29 PM on February 23, 2013

That's sucky. You should totally get a do-over trip.

It was an adventure, at least.

Oh, and breakfast at Herbivore was kinda lame, honestly. I saw a bunch of rave reviews from vegans, and I'm vegetarian, so I figured what the hell. But they screwed up pretty much every part of breakfast, including the potatoes (which anyone can make vegan, really). Mostly, it tasted like they used vegetable or soy oil for their griddle. I would have been better served by waiting an hour then going to Chaya Ya for lunch. I love that spot; hopefully, I'll get to it tomorrow.
posted by klangklangston at 5:13 PM on February 23, 2013

Herbivore sucks.

See you at the Ramp at 10 am. Looking forward to seeing some of you and meeting the rest.
posted by eugenen at 5:38 PM on February 23, 2013

We will be there, likely a few minutes late, courtesy of Muni (and our being slow to get out of the house.)
posted by gingerbeer at 9:29 AM on February 24, 2013

I'll likely be a bit late too, just because I've planned my hoteling poorly.

We're here. Table is under the name Laura, in case you don't see us or know what we look like. I am wearing a fedora.

From left, klangklangston, gingerbeer, eugenen, Snarl Furillo, rtha, potsmokinghippieoverlord.

NOTE that despite appearances Snarl Furillo is NOT sitting on my lap. Repeat: Snarl Furillo not on lap.

A delightful time was had by all, or at least by me.

Us too! And now we imbibe more cocktails while critiquing the dress choices of celebrities.

Hah! Jazz hands!

Confidential to Klang: I am an idiot! Three minutes after I pointed you to SFMOMA, I had a "They're taking the hobbits to Isengard!" moment as I walked past THE ACTUAL MOMA, instead of the convention center I sent you to. I went running back to find you, but you had disappeared!

I hope you got to the museum, and the next time you are here I will happily buy you drinks at the Tonga Room.

And the winner in the category of Best Tee Shirt to Wear to a Tourist Destination is...

[Breathless anticipatory hush.] [Rustle of torn envelope.] [Announcer's stifled gasp of astonished delight.]

Klangklangston!

[Riotous applause.]

Seriously that is a great shirt.

Aargh! My face got sunburned! And I have my yearly appointment with the dermatologist tomorrow! I'm going to get such a lecture....

Oh, man, I ended up with a wicked sunburn too, and couldn't figure out what happened.

Also: I ended up circling the convention center (and getting mobbed by kids at the Yerba Buena) but at least I found a quiet alcove near the back where I was able to smoke a jay I rolled with Gideon papers. Then I went and enjoyed the half-price MOMA quite a bit.
