David Bowie at the V&A

Fri May 17 at 8:00 PM, Victoria and Albert Museum, Cromwell Road, SW7 2RL
Cromwell Road, Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, SW7, UK (Map & Directions)
The Bowie exhibition at the V&A will be an awesome meetup. Museum, then pub, then food.
1. Go to the V&A website and buy a ticket for entry at 8.00pm on 17 May.

2. Meet outside the V&A at 7.30pm

3. Enjoy the exhibition.

I remember at the Post-Modern exhibition last year that, because some of us took longer than others to see the exhibition, people ended up having to wait for them at the exit, which was inconvenient. So let's arrange to meet up at a pub after the exhibition (any suggestions?) so we can all see the show at our own pace and not be kept waiting by dawdlers or feel guilty about taking too long.

So much yes to this.

Yes, this sounds superb. Friday is best for me as well.

You're a star, Jan! I'd like to come and meet you, and I think you'll blow my mind.

Great plan - count me in.

Oh very good HoD. I was trying to think of something like that, but failed miserably...

Jean Genius! Oh indeed yes. Friday's always good for me.

Yes, so much yes. I was trying to fool my wife into coming to the Bowie exhibit with me without much success.

You're a hero for organising this. I always enjoy interacting with mefites in both sound and vision so I'm definitely down. Fridays are good for me, I'm usually only dancing. I'll be in America (I'm afraid) for a while in late April, so earlier is better for me.

i'm so sorry

Count me in. Should we Doodle this thing to find a day that works best for most people?
posted by henryaj at 2:53 PM on February 18, 2013

Interestink. I would be up for this.

Sounds good to me.

I don't do London, but God is this tempting. I shake with the same desire as the sober Philistine.
posted by comealongpole at 4:30 PM on February 19, 2013

I know very little of Bowie, but after last year would certainly be up for a drink with you hilarious bastards.
posted by ominous_paws at 7:20 AM on February 20, 2013

If visitors from the U.S. are allowed, I'd be happy to join in.
posted by still_wears_a_hat at 2:41 PM on February 21, 2013

I echo ominous_paws' comments.

I would like to come along for the after-meetup.

(and would warmly encourage visitors from the US.)

Okay, this is selling out fast so I'm proposing the following date:

Friday 21st June

I know it's a long way ahead but we need to book ahead to be sure of tickets. As we did with the last V&A meetup, people can buy their own tickets online for an entry into the exhibition at about 6.30pm and we can meet outside the museum.

If this date is really inconvenient, please say, but if I don't hear otherwise within 48 hours, I'll fix the date and post this as a confirmed meetup.

Aw, I'll be away in the states then. :( I mean, I know there'll be another meetup in short order, but I thought I'd throw it out there as inconvenient for me. Can we not do earlier, like late April or May? There still seem to be plenty of slots then.
posted by catch as catch can at 1:40 PM on February 27, 2013

That date would be a-ok for me, but let's see what others say.
posted by iamkimiam at 4:21 PM on February 27, 2013

A midsummer meetup! That'd be fine by me – long way away, though.
posted by HandfulOfDust at 5:53 AM on February 28, 2013

That date wouldn't work for me, but if it works for everyone else I won't be offended.
posted by dubold at 6:58 AM on February 28, 2013

That date would be fine by me, hoping nothing comes up nearer the time. If April/May is the backup I wouldn't be able to do 19th April - 13th May.
posted by Erberus at 1:07 PM on February 28, 2013

OK, let's have some dates from you guys that you can definitely do - on a Friday night.
posted by essexjan at 10:53 AM on March 1, 2013

Oh, to be in England, now that June's there! (that date's fine with me, but virtually any Friday would be)
posted by atrazine at 12:37 PM on March 1, 2013

Taking into account Erberus's dates, I could do 17 May through 7 June, or all of July. But yeah, I also won't be offended if y'all decide on the 21st - just catch you at the next meetup.
posted by catch as catch can at 1:27 PM on March 1, 2013

Okay. 17th May sounds good. I'll make it a definite for then.
posted by essexjan at 12:21 PM on March 3, 2013

Aww shucks, that's my very last day of teaching for the year (more reason to celebrate!) but I don't get out of there until 6.15, so wouldn't get to London til about 10. Boo. No worries though, there will be other fun times and I'll be sure to catch 'em. Have a blast!
posted by iamkimiam at 3:57 PM on March 3, 2013

Um, I just went to bookand there's only one ticket left for 18:00 - has everyone already booked? If not there are still places for 20:00.
posted by freya_lamb at 5:04 AM on March 4, 2013

That's a shame, Kim! Next time.

I've booked a ticket for 8pm....
posted by HandfulOfDust at 6:31 AM on March 4, 2013

I've booked for 8pm and updated the meetup details.

Sorry you can't make it, Kim. But we'll see you soon, I hope.
posted by essexjan at 12:03 PM on March 4, 2013

Booked for 8pm.
posted by atrazine at 12:41 PM on March 4, 2013

We'll miss you Kim! I've booked for 8pm now; it looks like there are only 5 tickets left. Weirdly, the 6pm slot now says 3 tickets available, not 1, so maybe more will come available for 8? Hope everyone else who can make this date manages to get tickets.
posted by catch as catch can at 1:34 PM on March 4, 2013

I booked and there are still 3 left for 8pm
posted by Erberus at 11:30 AM on March 5, 2013

Holy crap I want to come. We've been planning to come over to see the exhibition anyway. But I don't know where I'll be living in May so can't plan or book tickets for a while yet, which looks like it will be too late. Boo.
posted by shelleycat at 1:21 PM on March 6, 2013

If you decide to go for a reprise in June then I may be able to come then instead (with my Bowie-loving husband).
posted by shelleycat at 1:23 PM on March 6, 2013

Hey - so I already have tickets for another day, but if/when you are intending to head to a public house/ other drinking establishment afterwards then I'd like to join y'all!

Will aim to arrive for the pub meet, but don't think I could get into town in time for the exhibition.
posted by TheophileEscargot at 2:21 AM on March 9, 2013

Another one not sure she will make it for the exhibition that night (though plan to see it anyway) but interested in the pub meet afterwards. I guess you are looking for somewhere nearby? It's been years since I last went but the Polish Club is nearby and nice (if a bit pricey). Or there is the Bunch of Grapes which is just up the road, very British but due to the location most of the 'regulars' are usually tourists (but they have decent stuff on tap and do food). If there is going to be a crowd and it is a Friday night you might want to think about booking somewhere as places can be pretty full.
posted by Megami at 1:46 AM on March 13, 2013

I'll try to come too! At least for the pub part.
posted by Ziggy500 at 3:31 AM on March 14, 2013

posted by the cat's pyjamas at 12:08 PM on March 29, 2013

Updating this with a pub suggestion - The Hour Glass, which is a five-minute walk from both the V&A and South Kensington Tube Station. It's open until 11.30 on a Friday night, unlike most pubs in the area which close at 11.
posted by essexjan at 10:57 AM on April 3, 2013

Can't make it even to the post - drinks, but have a good time folks!
