Fri July 6 at 7:00 PM, Naked City
8564 Greenwood Ave N, Seattle, WA, USA (Map & Directions)
Seattle hasn't seen much meet-up action lately, we've discussed a meet up in Greenwood before, how about we make it happen? Possible dates: Sometime in the next few weeks. Possible venue: Naked City?

Excellent.

I'll be into this, for what it's worth. Date and time depending, of course.
posted by ChrisR at 7:42 AM on June 16, 2012

I don't have any dates in mind - I guess the question is school night or otherwise?
posted by Artw at 8:21 AM on June 16, 2012

I should elaborate; I'm only free Friday->Monday; Tues-Thurs is out for me. So, that's where my preference lies.
posted by ChrisR at 8:46 AM on June 16, 2012

I got stuff I do Monday nights.

How about the 29th?

I'd be down for this. I'm going to be out of town on the 29th though.

Would the 6th be too far out?
posted by Artw at 11:22 AM on June 16, 2012

29th is out for me. 6th might be OK. I don't know much about Greenwood venues so I can't recommend a place.
posted by litlnemo at 3:11 PM on June 16, 2012

Keep in mind they're tearing up 85th right now, so traffic is a nightmare.

Baranof + game shop also right there, plus Pillager's Pub for bonus nerdgasms. Mori for sushi. Naked City has the room and the best beer.
posted by mwhybark at 8:18 PM on June 16, 2012

If happens between the 1st and the 11th of July I'm down, any day is good. I would vote for Naked City as well, the beer is excellent.
posted by hackwolf at 11:07 PM on June 16, 2012

OK, any other thoughts before I lock in the 6th?

Well, the 6th has me in another country. The upshot of it is, someone's not going to be able to make it, and we could bikeshed until doomsday on what day to do it. Go forth and assert a time!
posted by ChrisR at 6:56 AM on June 17, 2012

We 're in the pipe, 5 by 5...

Starting time is 7pm but the way these things usually go some folks will drift in early and other people will be in the place till closing and some of those will be the same people...

I AM THE LAW!

I should probably check out how bad the parking/traffic situation is later today - I'm up on Greenwood Ave right now, and North/South seems to be flowing fine, though Seattle is of course ALL subject to sudden traffic suckage.
posted by Artw at 4:11 PM on June 17, 2012

I've had decent luck parking on the side streets to the west of Greenwood and north of 85th, even on a Friday night, when I drive. It's not curbside but you can get within a couple of blocks. Fridays are always super busy there though.
posted by hackwolf at 4:42 PM on June 17, 2012

Freddy's lot was still open and freeforall last time we were at Mori about three weeks ago. I haven't been by since they finished knocking the buildings down (or was that just the grocery?).
posted by mwhybark at 5:33 PM on June 17, 2012

This sounds like a lot of fun. I will try my darndest to make it, particularly as there's good beer. Thanks for calling the meetup, Artw.
posted by pymsical at 8:56 AM on June 18, 2012

Sounds like parking and traffic not too bad compared with downtown or cap hill, even with the work, so I am less worried.

Turns out the 6th sees me in Europe. Have a good time, folks!
posted by egypturnash at 11:25 PM on June 18, 2012

Hm, I'd like to try to come, although I'm a little scared.
posted by dotgirl at 1:48 PM on June 19, 2012

Don't be scared. Only grouse bites, and usually not enough for the moon-fever to transmit.
posted by Errant at 5:14 PM on June 19, 2012

No biting north of the Ship Canal.
posted by grouse at 6:00 PM on June 19, 2012

There's good parking in the ... what's it called, Piper Creek Plaza? I forget. Where the Mud Bay Granary is.
posted by The otter lady at 9:09 PM on June 21, 2012

Not sure if I can make it to this one but be forewarned I am going to be posting a canoeing meetup in the next few weeks with, of course, drinks and nosh to follow at a safer on land location.
posted by y2karl at 8:06 AM on June 22, 2012

I might be in! I've never been to one of these things before. Dotgirl, we can be a little scared together.
posted by joan_holloway at 4:08 PM on June 22, 2012

Well then, that makes three of us Ms. Holloway & Ms. Dotgirl ... but these things are always okay, MeFites being a swell lot. Plus there's alcohol at this place, so a little of that kind of assuages things for me.

Ergo, I'm in (although I think there's vintage races earlier that day, so I might be sun-burned and more spacey than normal).

Put me down as a definite maybe.
posted by Relay at 7:36 PM on June 22, 2012

Relay: Vintage car racing? I know SOVREN's down at Pacific Raceway this Thursday and Friday, what's happening on the 6th?

Also, you'll have at least one other gearhead in the group to talk to! *waves*

Ah crap, the vintages races are THIS weekend?

Damn, time to re-arrange some stuff ...

Lot of new unrecognizable names in this thread. Does this mean I need to look for a whole *other* set of nerds in a crowded bar?
posted by Slarty Bartfast at 8:36 PM on July 3, 2012

That's a good question.... where are we meeting/who do we look for? I have never been to this bar before (so I dunno how big/crowded it will be), nor do I know any of the people who've said they are coming. I will be the one with feathers and a beak.... er, I'm a non-petite woman with glasses and long dark hair. I might have the boyfriend in tow.

My European trip fell through (trannies need more documents than normal people when acquiring passports), so I'll see y'all there.

I'll be the one with the BRIGHT RED HAIR unless I follow through on my threat to dye it Twilight Sparkle blue/pink/purple. But I've been making that threat for the past week or two and haven't done it yet.

Freddy's lot closed, as it happens. Still a lot of street parking around, unexpectedly.

The movie on the bar tubes is "night of the hunter," and I have a beer. So there's that.

They are playing Bad Company and the barkeep looks like Sawyer from Lost. I'll update if I get a nickname.

And I had forgotten this, but the regular bar manager here looks just like a young, full-figured, already-bearded Orson Welles.

Well, pants maybe.

I've pinged maxwelton, to see if he wants to carpool over from Whidbey for this, but no response yet. I'm planning to be there at 7.

Currently aiming for 7, may be early depending on how well the kids are doing/how receptive of looking after them other people are.
