Sat April 7 at 4:00 PM, Greg_Ace's Abode
4414 SE Center St, Portland, OR, USA (Map & Directions)
Greg_Ace's place is the.. the place! Saturday April 7, start showing up around 4PM or so. Bring some potluck-y foods (Greg will probably smoke some meats for us) and/or beverages (fermented or non). Gaming is going to be a mix of One Thousand Blank White Cards and Cards Against Humanity, and maybe even some regular cards. And who knows what else?!

I'm in. Or, what is it I am if it's my own house? That too, yeah.

I'd be up for toting the 1KBWC to wherever.
posted by Specklet at 12:36 AM on March 24, 2012

This is aside from the beer thing probably happening on the 21st? So, the 21st is out.

A rousing game of 1KBWC might be called for.

Roller Derby.

Participate or spectate?

Seriously though, more details.

I could tentatively be up for a thing depending on the day of the week & time (my pre-9pm availability these days is limited to pretty much only Saturday post-6pm & some Sundays).
posted by dersins at 10:10 AM on March 25, 2012

Well, what about cards (regular + 1KBWC) and foods and fermented beverages at Greg's on the 7th (Saturday) or 8th (Sunday)? Kinda leaning towards Saturday late afternoon into evening so that folk can hang out later and not worry about work the next day (which always happens on Sundays).

PDX vs. Chi-town roller derby match, April 14, 2012. I've never been but apparently there is drinking and roller derby. Portland has more than one team, so I think the April 14th event is showcasing the "Wheels of Justice".

There's also apparently is thing about banked vs. flat track but I have no idea what the deal is here so can't participate in the controversy.

Events at the Colosseum are $14/$20 w/Rose Quarter appropriate costs for concessions I'm sure.
posted by fiercekitten at 2:28 PM on March 28, 2012

The issue seems to be whether to propose meetups for 2, or possibly 3, weekends in April. Personally, I am potentially up for cards, roller derby, and beer, so maybe these should be listed as three separate possible events and whoever wants to attend whichever can make their arrangements accordingly.

Roller cards. Derby beer.

Okay, set this one for Greg's on the 7th. I'll let someone else set up th' darby iffin they so choose. And the Belgian beer thing on the 21st is already up.

Should there be a theme for beverages? The whisk(e)y one seemed pretty popular.
posted by curious nu at 4:45 PM on March 29, 2012

The idea of a cocktail-tasting meetup has been bandied about, but I kind of got the impression that mrzarquon may be interested in hosting that. The other thing is that the drinking focus historically tends to replace a card-playing focus to an extent (and vice-versa). Either a beverage-tasting of some sort with incidental card-playing, or a card-playing meetup with incidental beverage consumption is fine with me; but I think it would be best to make a choice toward one "centerpiece" or the other.

How about wine?

Greg had an idea-suggestion: folk should feel free to bring CDs/mp3s-onna-stick of anything they might want to listen to, in case anyone is an UNGRATEFUL MONSTER and doesn't appreciate the nice jazz he provides.

I meant it, too - PLEASE bring interesting tunage! I never intended to impose my musical tastes on others, even if only by default.

Don't we kind of by implication have about ten thousand albums to choose from just by virtue of walking in the door with gigantic music libraries in our pockets? I promise to bring some music with me, as long as you have a male stereo 1/8" cable to plug into my phone.

I.. I don't go to those. =(

These ones are almost assuredly bite-free.

Who's bringing food?
And what?
It might be good to get this figured out prior to.
posted by nickthetourist at 4:38 PM on April 2, 2012

I am bringing a big honkin' leg o' lamb that Greg will smoke with FIRE and.. and SMOKE and it'll probably be pretty tasty. Someone else will have to provide the jug of wine and whistling in the dark.
posted by curious nu at 4:53 PM on April 2, 2012

I'm also planning to do roasted zucchini/summer squash like last time (by special request), and probably oven fries as well. I'm not much of a wine connoisseur but I'll see if I can provide a decent bottle of something...maybe a Cabernet or Chianti, to go with the lamb.

Greg, how are you set for chairs?
posted by curious nu at 2:17 PM on April 7, 2012

I have my 6 dining chairs, plus Sibrax's 4 that he left here from last time. That covers the 9 definite attendees, but the 4-5 "maybes" could swing things into the Short On Chairs territory even if we bring the big patio chairs inside.... So I guess if it's easy for anyone to bring a few folding chairs that'd be nice.

We have a metric tonne of games if some of you want non-card types next time (though I missed out on 1kbwc....this time).

srsly specklet I need that recipe, what the fuck is in that stuff besides ambrosia, sunshine, pixie dust, kitten whiskers and 8 ounces of sweet mexican tar heroin?

Yeah, thanks for hosting, Greg!

The recipe for the artichoke dip is embarrassingly simple:

2 cans artichoke hearts in water, diced
1 medium yellow onion, diced
1 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
big glob of mayo (1/4 cup, maybe? I dunno, until it sticks together.)
lots of black pepper
red pepper flakes
garlic powder

Bake at 350 for about 45 minutes, or until really nice and brown on top. Serve with crusty baguette, crackers, or apparently, as an omelet.

Oh and holy crap, my dad and aunt and a couple friends came over last night and we played Cards Against Humanity and it was horrible and hilarious! So thank you so much for giving us the deck! sibrax, was that you? I can never remember folks' user names, I'm sorry!
