Beer and shenanigans at Spinnakers. I've overthought enough, and decided to go with a Sunday night at Spinnakers. Water view, good beer, good food, downtownish, wifi, pool tables, and trivia later in the night. They don't take reservations in the pub area, so it's a bit risky, but I'm going to try to get in a bit early to nab a table, hopefully by the windows. There's a boozy, dishevelled photo of me in my profile, which is probably a good representation of what I'll look like by the time you all get there. Let's do this!

Part II in the "let's find a really good Montreal trivia night" series: Know It All Trivia at Le Cagibi happens biweekly on Wednesdays. Sign-up starts at 19:30 and trivia at 20:00 sharp. There's a cost of $5 per person, but this includes some food. We doin' it again y'all. Last time many adorable Mefites came out and sang some of their favorite tunes by the Breeders, Cat Power, Weezer, Juliana Hatfield, Guided By Voice and so on and so forth. Also some Mefites just came and took pictures and were cool. But now we've got new songs, and there will be even more weird trivia contests and prizes and bad inside jokes by me your Host, thank god, amirite??? 930 doors, show at 10. (It's a little later this time, so happy hour can occur before hand nearby or at this spot or nothing or anything!) Spike Hill in Brooklyn, which has delicious beers and a restaurant next door. Philadelphia Quizzo Night

Let's have that Quizzo night that never happened in 2012! We talked about a lot of different places to play Quizzo, but Nodding Head seemed like it would work well for most of us. We'll start there, and we can check out other Quizzos in future months. Trivia starts at 8:30, but at least a couple of us will need to get there before 8 to grab one of the big tables. Max team size is seven so if more than that show up, we may have to split into two teams (or take a hefty penalty). There are no food/drink minimums during Nodding Head Quizzo. And don't worry if you don't think you're very good at trivia - this will be mostly about the hanging out. This doesn't have to happen on the 27th but it sounds like that's a good day for at least a few of us, so I'm setting this up as confirmed. We can change the date if it turns out the 27th won't work.

Montreal Mefites, how about a nice, friendly pub quiz? Sparrow has a trivia night coming up on Sunday, Jan. 13. Hopefully by then we'll all be dug out of this avalanche! They have no restriction on team sizes (AFAIK), so if more people than expected show up, that'll be fine. SOs and friends welcome! How does that work for everyone?

Philadelphia Quizzo Night

How about a trivia night sometime in December or January? Admittedly, our last attempt at Quizzo was a flop (Black Sheep turned out to be way too crowded and we ended up having a non-Quizzo hangout at another bar), but there has been some interest in giving it another shot. I've heard a few votes for Local 44 in West Philly, which has Quizzo at 9 p.m. on Sunday nights. It's a great bar, but I've never been to their Quizzo, so I don't know the team limit size (Google search suggests it is probably 6, which is pretty standard) or how lax they are about letting one or two people show up and hold down a big table. I do know that Local 44 generally has some kind of drinking/eating minimum for people sitting at tables in the dining room. My own suggestion would be for Nodding Head, which also does Sunday night Quizzo (8:30 p.m.), simply because I've been there for Quizzo a bunch of times and know that it wouldn't be a big deal for one or two people to grab a table and have the rest of the group filter in later. They also have no rules about food/drink minimums. Their team size limit is 7, but you can play with a larger team (though the penalties are pretty harsh, something like -2 points per round for each additional team member). Does anyone have any other thoughts? There are lots of non-Sunday Quizzos if another day of the week is better. I'm particularly interested in hearing votes for Quizzos that happen a little earlier in the evening, because getting home at or after midnight on a work night does not always do awesome things for my morning the next day.
