I've revived and updated my award-winning one-man show, My Fairy Godmothers Smoke Too Much, a collection of stories about my mostly calamitous adult pursuit of a fairy godmother, and will be performing at the Kranzberg Arts Center on October 10. I explore my possible alien origins, the lopsided insights I've gotten from volunteer work in a porno store, my flirtation with suspected magical beings in the gutter, learning to dance through voyeurism, and other unsettling adventures on my way into haphazard adulthood. Guillermo Gómez-Peña and his radical performance art group La Pocha Nostra are hosting a "extreme fashion show and photo performance karaoke" with participants of a week-long performance workshop - including yours truly! My drunken mumblings at MeFieri 2 revealed that I do burlesque, and I'm working on an act that will be at the Slipper Room. I don't want to reveal much because I leave that for the stage, but I'm hoping it will be fun and amusing. And hey, the Slipper Room does good cocktails. The other acts are a little more deep and interesting than mine, but I'm trying to make them a surprise too. Also, boobies. [more inside]
