We can't let National Barbecue Month pass by uncelebrated, can we? We're doing a grill/BBQ-based potluck, where everything (well, except maybe dessert) (and beverages) is done outside and over fire or in a smoker. Including vegetables...and maybe even fruit. What else? Let's think outside the oven... I have a smoker, and anyone who wants to bring over meat for me to smoke is welcome to do so. I'd need to have beef or pork by Friday evening the 17th as it will likely take most of Saturday to smoke; fish and chicken take less time - MeMail me to make plans. I have only a small Weber grill, so anyone who has a portable grill and is willing to bring it please do so, so that we don't have to stand around serially grilling one or two items at a time.

Team MeFi Trivia?

Update: Tuesday's trivia is on at the Cruzroom, but we are still trying to find the best "everyone can make it" night / location.

My friend is behind ShanRock's Triviology and I just had a chance to compete last night at the Cruzroom off Alberta. Which has led me to the conclusion that we might want to try and put together our own Trivia team (or Teams) and compete. Would be a good excuse for a weekly outing.

What's doing, San Francisco?

Short notice, I know, but two lights and I are going to a conference in San Francisco this weekend and will be around from Friday evening to Tuesday evening. (Related Ask.) Looks like Thirsty Bear Brewery & Restaurant has a nice mix of location, good for a group, and interesting food & drink. Reservation is already made for 8 under Patrick, but if we outpace that number quickly over on the right, we can reserve additional tables. (There were still several 6-tops available, it looked like.)

If you are unaware of Scalefree's situation, you can check out his Askme question, and my subsequent Metalk post. Let's head to the Standard Tap sometime soon to show him a merry time! The date has not been settled, but scalefree really likes the Standard Tap, so I think that'd be fun. I think we're settled on December 12th, but the time is still up in the air. Desperately seeking San Francisco Mefites

East coast academic, transplanted to the mid-south, seeks Bay area internet nerds for an evening of meetup fun. I will be in SF November 13-16 for the National Communication Association convention and I would love to meet some new Mefites! I am staying at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square (the conference hotel) and I won't have a car, so anything that's walkable or public transportation-able is necessary. I am free in the evenings on Nov. 13, 15, and 16, so I'm open to whichever of those days will be the most convenient. Any takers?
