I think it would be really cool for all MeFites who will be at Sasquan, the 73rd World Science Fiction Convention, to get together. I propose the District Bar on Friday August 21 for early dinner because a) it's a mile walk from the con so we can work up an appetite, b) the menu looks good, and c) I know I'll certainly need a break from the con at that point. Walnut Creek Corners Tavern Big Swanky Restaurant/Bar Meetup
I'd like to hold a meetup at Corners Tavern in Walnut Creek. This is an upscale, "swanky" venue, but also whimsical with a sense of humor, and only semi-formal, as I see it. It's situated in Broadway Plaza near Macy's and is easy to find. About 20-30 minute walk from BART, depending on what lights you get. What say you? [more inside]

So, I made some beer, it turned out good, and I like to share.
I'm calling it TCP-IPA, and the recipe is here.
Thing is, I don't get out that much, at least close to home, so I don't know a good venue for this kind of thing. I was thinking of asking Øl in Walnut Creek if I could bring some of my own - but I'd be open to other suggestions of a good place and time (in January)

Octoberfest Dachshund Racing in Huntington Beach
Every Sunday in October, Old World Village in Huntington Beach, puts on the sport of kings: Dachshund Racing! The races run from 3 PM to 4 PM. I propose Metafilters from far and near meet up at around 1 PM for sausages and beer. We'll carefully discuss the merits of the fine wiener dog athletes and then cheer them on. I'm not exactly sure, but I think the entry fees total out to $2. [more inside]
