We're long overdue for a meetup! I know we've got at least a few MeFites in the area. So, first off we need to pick a date and time between July 17 and July 19 and a location. [more inside]

Staten Island's 350th anniversary
At the College of Staten Island, this coming Saturday, there will be an academic conference devoted to Staten Island's 350th anniversary. The keynote speaker is Ms. Carmen Farina, Former Deputy Chancellor of New York City Public Schools. At 2:30, I will be giving a short presentation about the period (late 1860s) in which General Don Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna was in exile in Staten Island.
