Proposed: Want to jump into the Potomac on Jan 25 to fight climate change?
Hi all! I'm doing the Chesapeake Climate Action Network's "Keep Winter Cold" polar bear plunge again this year. It's a fundraising event for a great organization that does excellent state & local organizing around environmental issues--they're the ones we have to thank for Maryland's fracking ban. Meetup: Bowie Baysox v. Altoona Curve - minor league baseball, y'all!
I just attended a minor league game at Prince George's Stadium, and it was SO MUCH DAMN FUN. Relatively sparse crowds, no lines for concessions, and cheap seats *right up front*. There are even good activities for the kiddos--a carousel, a bouncehouse, and of course, face painting. LET'S DO THIS, DC-AREA MEFITES. [more inside]

Meetup: DC FOODIES get sum dim sum
Hello FOODIES and welcome to the planning thread for our July meetup! (Sorry, I know that title pun is terrible.)
Everyone seemed pretty interested in dim sum when we met up earlier this month, and my research suggests that Gourmet Inspirations in Silver Spring, MD (near the Wheaton Red Line stop) is the area's sleeper hit, both better-reviewed and apparently less-crowded than its competitors. For anyone who doesn't know what dim sum is, it's Hong Kong-style brunch tapas and it is delicious! Usually lots of dumplings and pastries are involved. I will be hosting a Games Day in my home on Sunday, June 14th, from 3 PM until the last person leaves (which will likely be at least midnight). Meetup: Silverdocs - Drinks and documentaries
For those who aren't familiar with it, Silverdocs is a kickass documentary film festival sponsored by the American Film Institute and Discovery. Most of the films are screened in the lovely AFI Silver in downtown Silver Spring, MD, which is metro accessible. Anyone going? Anyone interested? Want to try to meetup somewhere in Silver Spring for pre-or post-film drinks? I live nearby and already have tickets for at least one film for most of the days. The festival runs from June 18-24, but I imagine that it might be easier to coordinate something over the weekend (June 23 or 24) or perhaps Friday night? [more inside]

Meetup: jason's_planet visits Charm City
I'm here in Baltimore on business and will be here until August 26th. Would love to meet local MetaFilter people. I'm staying close to the Inner Harbor but do not want to have the meetup there because this really isn't my favorite part of town. I'll be busy during the weekdays but my one weekend and weekday evenings are wide open. I don't have a car but am not averse to cabbing it.
