I'm coming home - or close enough, and I want to meetup in New Orleans!

It went so well this time last year (though I don't remember much) I want to do it again. I'll definately be back by March, so I was thinking the first weekend - the first or the second. Meetup, dinner, drinks, then out in NO. Any takers?

Me n' my wife, Kitteh, are going to be in New Orleans for a week! Anybody want to hang out?

My wife lived there for several years in the late '90s, moving to Atlanta in '99. This will be my first time in the Big Easy*, however. She's not sure how the landscape has changed she lived there (and since the storm), and everything is new to me. She's hoping to revisit some old haunts in the French Quarter, I am hoping to talk like Gambit** and do a lot of walking around. So we're up for anything -- it could be a traditional MeFite bar get-together, or we could visit a museum, a live show, see if there's something cool going on. Very open with no agenda other than getting to know the city again/for the first time. *she has instructed me never to call it "the Big Easy" **and not to talk like Gambit

Edit: All Systems Go for a meetup on August 26th (a Sunday) at Noon at the Rendezvous Tavern for drinks and a free (with drink purchase) buffet served up by Nirvana. Hopefully this will become the start of a once-a-month-or-so meetup series that'll give us all an excuse to go out and kick back with some Internet People every so often. The recent meetup at Twelve Mile Limit was good times! Let's do this on the regular.

OK, here's the plan folks. At High Noon on Sunday the 26th of August, we'll converge at the aptly-named Rendezvous Tavern, 3101 Magazine Street, for an Indian buffet by Nirvana. The buffet is free with purchase of a drink at the bar, which I think you'll find is one of the best deals going this side of the river. It's a +1 event, so feel free to bring a guest along if you like. This is meant to be the beginning of a regular meetup series that'll gather every month or two somewhere in the city. Good? Good. Let's do this!

I propose that all New Orleans MeFites meet at 8:00 PM at Twelve Mile Limit, 500 South Telemachus Street in Mid-City, on Thursday the 26th of July 2012 to get their gin on. Gin, other drinks, barbeque, and cigars if you want 'em.

Twelve Mile Limit is a local Mid-City bar which manages to combine serious respect for the craft of mixology while simultaneously being unpretentious and reasonably priced. Thursdays tend to have enough people there to make things interesting but not so many that you can't get a table by the couch. They have many different kinds of gin (and many, many other liquors, and their beer selection ain't too shabby either) and their bartenders know what they're about. They also have some of the best barbeque in the city (better than The Joint, in my humble opinion). We will each run separate tabs but buying drinks for each other is highly encouraged in the spirit of MetaFilter camraderie. They are non-smoking on Thursdays and also close at 1AM, but if anybody is game after closing (or if we just feel like wandering, closing time or no) then we can take the party somewhere else, such as my porch or perhaps Bayou St. John or City Park, where I will gladly provide some fine cigars from my recent ex-employer Cigar Factory New Orleans (see this bit for my cigar qualifications) and do some (quiet) drinking and conversing there. I will provide the cigars, y'all can provide whatever libations are required or desired. I may also have a six-pack or two, and/or a bottle of gin around here somewhere. If anybody gets to the point where they can't make it home until the next morning, they can crash on my couch or my floor. I have a longcouch and a crash pad and sleeping bag around here somewhere, so I can accomodate at least two of you. Y'all are my people, y'heard? This is just meant to be a friendly, semi-inebriated gathering of MeFites. The above outline is only meant as a rough guideline and the evening is free to evolve in whatever direction seems best. Remember, tomorrow is just Friday. All you have to do is survive it and then you can sleep in on the weekend. OH! Wear your drinking pants. Seriously, wear some ridiculous, hilarious, over-the-top pants, something truly obnoxious and obscene. If at least one person doesn't turn up in a day-glo Speedo and somebody else doesn't rock up in faux-snakeskin harem pants, I will be disappointed. See you there!

From June 4-7 elizard and I will be visiting New Orleans. We're staying at the Maison Dupuy in the Vieux Carr. Our only plans are to eat, drink, and hear music. You, local Nawlins Mefite, are an important part of that plan. Get us away from the horrors of tourist traps and into the friendly local bars. Steer us from overpriced, overhyped restaurants and into the good little holes-in-the-wall. Fill us with booze and watch us go!

Despite growing up in nearby Baton Rouge I am not terrifically familiar with the area, so perhaps a local could pinpoint an ideal bar and we could arrange shenanigans? Non-librarians also welcome. I'm going to the National Conference on Volunteering and Service in New Orleans. Anyone want to get together between June 5 and 9?

I was thinking maybe a brunch or early afternoon meetup on Sunday, June 5, but am open to other ideas too. I'm staying at the Prytania Park Hotel. If somewhere good is in walking distance, that's great. Otherwise, I might need help navigating public transit.

Hi all! BLuR and I are coming to town for the first weekend of Jazz Fest. We're arriving (very late) on April 28 and leaving on May 2. Let's have a meetup!

Some of you may remember us from the 10th anniversary meetup...or not, as I remember there being quite alot of alcohol there. So, yea. Dinner? Drinks? Meetup: Parade Route Meetup

Let's pick a Mardi Gras parade and have a Meetup along the route!

One of the smaller parades makes the most sense to me, because the craziness of the parade won't overpower the Meetup, and because people probably don't have formal plans for them already. A location near a bar would be nice, I suppose. My first two ideas are Carrollton Sunday (noon Feb. 27) somewhere on St. Charles between Louisiana and Napoleon (Delachaise, Columns, Mayfair, Milan Lounge are all close by) or Druids (Wednesday Mar. 2, 6:30 pm) at Le Bon Temps. Anybody interested and have other ideas for date and location?
