Halloween party in Oakland!

Last year we hosted a Metafilter Halloween party, and we though, what the hell, we could do this again. We have tons of space, a patio, and are generally okay people. We're just under a mile from 2 different Bart stations, and have plenty of parking. If you need an excuse to wear a costume, here you go! If you don't want to wear a costume, we won't judge! Bring something to drink or eat and we'll make it a party! UPDATE- We are apt 404. To buzz in you need to press #15 on the intercom.

Presentation: Curiosity Landing @ Chabot Center tonight

The Chabot Space and Science Center is showing the Curiosity Landing tonight. I missed out on tickets to NASA Ames, but I think this is the next best place to watch.

You can't buy tickets online or by phone, despite what the event page says, because Chabot's automated ticket system is down, but you can buy them in person. I just called and they're only at 25% capacity as of 7pm. Seating is first-come, first-served and they will be opening another one of their halls at 8:30, so showing up then would likely get us a group of seats. The landing is at 10:31pm Pacific, and I intend to show up to watch it while surrounded by nerds. Would any of you like to join me? Reply with a yea and I'll PM you my number.

Halloween Party with the mefites. There may or may not still be some lingering scotch from our last shebang.

Drinks somewhere? A party? An event that's already going on somewhere? I just want to run around dressed up for more than one night. Update: It's a mefite party! Come in costume. Bonus points if you come as a cheezburger. Extra bonus points if you come dressed as another mefite. Please feel free to bring your beverage of choice or a delightful snack.

Female Trouble is playing at The Uptown in Oakland for FREE.

We're playing in the KALX Dig This!: Locals Only Live Weekly Showcase. Also on the bill will be The Passengers (former members of the Hail Marys), Perros Con Pistolas and Mercy Thieves. We'll be joined by guest Max Baloian (Lord Loves a Working Man, Rube Waddell) on bass. Female Trouble is an all-woman (well, not for this show, but usually) band that plays farfisa driven pop-punk with unusually smartass lyrics. There are also nighties. I play guitar! Come say hi! The Uptown is located about a block from 19th St BART and the show will end by midnight, so it's easy to get to - you have no excuse not to go.

So I am visiting the Bay Area as part of my "should I move there" tour. With Afroblanco, I will be putting together a Mission meetup, but I am very interested in Oakland, too. Oneirodynia has helpfully pointed me towards some spots and it seems like Luka's would be a good call—food, open in the afternoon, near BART. I was thinking something like 3 or 4 would be good. What say you East Bay?
