Goat Song

Goat Song : Chicago is the story of a year in the life of a group of mefites who abandoned their one-bedroom apartments in Chicago to live under Michigan Avenue raise Billy Goats. In poetic, reverent detail, EvilSpork talks of our ancient relationship to the land and our gradual alienation from the Billy Goats that feed us. His fascinating account traces his journey of the choosing of the billy goat, and learning how to breed, brew, and curse the cubs with them. [more inside]

Weekly Brooklyn supercollidin' meetup

Was thinking about proposing a meetup at Supercollider and just saw that Bar Scrawl (previously featured on the blue) did a neat writeup of it. Like Bill Roundy, I got the black hole to drink and it was tasty! They have a happy hour ('til 7, I think) and a cool little rooftop space. (If this date ain't no good, let me know and I will change it--any day next week is cool.)

One night of karaoke with item and hugandpint in Portland June 6 - 9

hugandpint and I will be in Portland, Oregon, USA for a spell in June and are interested in putting together a meetup that involves karaoke on either 6/6, 6/7, 6/8, or 6/9. I could get all fancy and actually look up where a good spot to do this might be or I could just ask if anyone has any ideas as to where the best karaoke digs are. [more inside]

Portland's Funniest Person comedy show

Opening night of Portland's Funniest Person contest, with a lot of the strongest competitors -- the ones who already work at Helium as MCs or features, including Metafilter's own msalt, Gabe Dinger, and Shane Torres. This is a dozen comics doing 5-6 minutes sets of their best material. If you tell them you're a friend of Mark, you can get 2 for 1 tickets (2 for $10). If that's still a bit steep, memail msalt as he has a limited number of free tickets, first come first served.

Scav 2014?

The University of Chicago's annual scavenger hunt - alternately known as Scav - is an exciting festival of high-weirdness. I really enjoyed this year's incarnation, and would like to field a MeFi team for next year's if that's feasible. EDIT: I probably can't do this anymore since it's the same time as Eurovision. Alas!
