I don't get it.

Fri December 2 at 7:00 PM, The V&A
Cromwell Rd, Kensington, Greater London SW7 5, UK (Map & Directions)
Post-Modernism at the V&A
After the success of the recent visit to the Hunterian Museum, I'd like to propose a trip to the V&A to see the Post-Modernism exhibition. It runs until mid-January, so there's plenty of time to organise this. Although you can in theory pay on the door, my experience of these things is that, unless you've bought an advance ticket, there could be a long wait, particularly at weekends.

The date is Friday, 2nd December 2011 at 7pm. Book your ticket for the 7pm entry (or if they're all sold out, 6.45 or 7.15), confirm attendance and we can meet up outside the V&A at 6.30.

I would definitely be up for this. Sometime in December would suit me best, but I'm weird:) I'll keep an eye on the conversation here in any event.

Potentially. I'm out of the country until 8 November. So, after that.

OK, let's say December then. I do not want to travel into town close to Christmas. Can I propose Friday 2nd (open until 10pm), Saturday 3rd or Sunday 4th December? With food and drink afterwards, of course.

Oh, I'd like to go see some PoMo with MeFi MoFos!

Cor, I wish I'd said ^that^. Brilliant.

I'd be up for this – any day would suit me, but I suppose I favour Friday evening or Sunday.

The 2nd or the 4th of December (ideally the 2nd) would work well for me.

2nd is good for me.

2nd is good for me so far. I'll put in the sked.

2nd sounds like a plan. Brilliant choice of exhibit too: been wanting to see this one for a while.

Should we set a time as well? Very early days yet, just that when you book you need to book for a specific time.

This sounds great. Mark us down.

Shall we book for 7pm - by that, I mean that everyone gets their own tickets, but opts for the 7pm slot. They don't chuck you out once you're in there, so if you're a little earlier or later it shouldn't matter too much but it'd be good if we could all book for the same time.

Sounds good to me!

I'm up for this, so long as I can make it down from Oxford in time (fingers crossed).

First meet-up w00t!

I'm scheduled to be in London then and could drop by!

(First time in London, first time in a non-Asia-based meetup! Wheeee!)

OK, marked it on my calendar.

Ticket bought and looking forward to this!

Maybe this is inappropriate or bold (Ask vs. Guess and all), but does anybody have a couch I might crash on at the end of the fun night? I don't want to catch the late night train back to York if I don't have to!

Kim, if you're still looking, you're welcome to stay with Ms Jest and myself (airbed; Brixton; 15 minute walk from tube).

Aww, thanks. A kind MeFite has offered me a place. :-)

Er, I should say that *another* kind MeFite has *already* offered me a place.

For a linguist, that secoond-last post was kinda unclear ;). (I got what you meant, though). Huzzah!

Firming up the arrangements - let's meet outside the main entrance to the V&A on Cromwell Road at 6.45 (does everyone have 7pm tickets? Let me know if you don't).

If you're new and don't know anybody, look out for me, I'll be there.

If you're running late, catch up with us inside.

Does anyone have any ideas for food/drink places afterwards?

Ooh, it'd be great if we could figure that out, so that MeFites can plan to join who might not necessarily want to go all PoMo with us.

I've had good food at Sole Luna, right by South Kensington station, a couple of times. It's fairly unassuming, and from the website it looks as though we might be able to book a table if we have a rough idea of numbers.

That being said, I'm up for pretty much anything except for Thai food, which is an allergy no-no for me.

I'm officially in, after battling with the V&A's website. (It wouldn't work without giving them a county. I live in London you fools!). No idea about food, tbh I'd probably have to eat before 7 or I'll be fainting in the museum, but sueinnyc's suggestion looks good.
posted by Infinite Jest at 9:40 AM on November 30, 2011

Sole Luna sounds great. I can't see it being possible for us to eat before the museum, though, as I'm at work during the day. Have a snack before the museum, IJ, and we can go and eat afterwards.

Perhaps on Friday when we know how many want to go to the restaurant, we can phone from the museum and book the table.

Oh, sorry, I wasn't suggesting a change of plan for the group, just idly noting that I'd need to eat (sandwiches from the tube station, I imagine).

I can't make the V&A but could do the after-meetup.

Having a problem with buying tickets online for tomorrow; getting some weird error. I suppose it should be possible to buy tickets tomorrow morning online, or failing that, in person?
posted by the cydonian at 2:06 PM on December 1, 2011

Right, bought through the wife's card/ account. We're green here; looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow!

Looking like I may have a catmergency that'll have me visiting the vet this evening after work. Can someone post here from their mobile about location details for the post post modern portion of the meetup? If I miss the V&A bit, I may be able to catch up with y'all after.
posted by ursus_comiter at 10:49 PM on December 1, 2011

just bumping 'n compiling the details...

"let's meet outside the main entrance to the V&A on Cromwell Road at 6.45 (does everyone have 7pm tickets? Let me know if you don't)."

"food/drinks afterwards at Sole Luna, right by South Kensington station"

How long do you think the exibit goes on? Is Sole Luna for 8 or 8.30 reasonable?

At any rate, it sounds like a good plan; see you all at 6.45, and the rest of you all later!

Man, I've totally double-booked myself with another late night museum event -- what a life! Hopefully I'll be able to make the next meet-up, and/or hit up any other Oxford peeps (it can't just be me, right?).
posted by the cat's pyjamas at 1:54 AM on December 2, 2011

Woohoo, see you there at 6.45!
posted by freya_lamb at 7:17 AM on December 2, 2011

Going to be at the V&A around 8pm, hopefully see you coming out. If not I'll meet people at the restaurant.
posted by permafrost at 10:48 AM on December 2, 2011

We are heading in! Please join us inside.

We plan to head to Sole Luna around 9 or a bit earlier. We just tried to book a big table but nobody answered.

The sun is down and I'm back from my mandatory 24-hour break from teh interwebs! Yesterday night was great, thanks to everyone who came. Lots of kensho to be had from everyone's collective brainpower, and from the exhibition in general.

For those curious [and to continue a conversation I was having with iamkimiam and others :) ], here's where Hadjiboy and I exchanged views on the "right" way to pronounce "Me-fi": the Hyderabadi way would be with a slightly aspirated "h" between the syllables. Like here. (Hit on the listen button to hear Google's automaton saying it out loud)

After all, the Urdu tag reads as:

Metafilter: مشاعره نہیں، مہفل ہے
(Metafilter: Not a mushaira, but a mehfil)

Although, after yesterday night, we could very well say:

Metafilter: Still not sure I get it.
