Boldly, or perhaps foolishly, the theme for this salon is mortality. This isn't a grief group or a counseling group — salon topics are always more abstract that that — so we can talk about it (or not) or digress (or not). It's really just a starting point for good conversation to go where it may. Similarly, feel free to look over the suggested reading/viewing (or not!)

If you've never watched — or heard of — Six Feet Under, an acclaimed HBO television series that ran from 2001-05, it is one of the best TV shows I've ever seen, and it's certainly the most effective — only? — major popular culture exploration of death I've ever seen. The three videos (10 min. each) give an interesting little overview of the show.

In the early naughts, the renowned Swiss sociologist Bernard Crettaz dreamt up Cafe Mortel.
