Fri April 1 at 5:30 PM, The Rackhouse Pub
208 S Kalamath St, Denver, CO, USA (Map & Directions)
We're meeting on April Fools at the Rackhouse! I'll be there at 5:30pm, and I imagine it will go until at least 8:00pm

Any of these days (and the weekend) is fine and dandy for me. I'm very excited about the prospect of going to two meetups while out here.

I would be likelier to go to this one, since it's an expensive bus ride to/from Boulder -- money that could be put towards beer! Falling Rock is always good, and any of those dates work for me.

Mark II, good to see you.

I'll come check this out, and brave the incredulity of you metafilter denizens.

yay for Denver! I've heard good things about Falling Rock, but haven't been yet. I'd prefer Friday 4/1 or Monday 4/4 (weekend is ok too). What time are we likely to meet? How late do these usually go?
posted by ansate at 8:18 AM on March 16, 2011

I will come to any date in Denver. So just count me in.
posted by freshwater at 6:04 PM on March 16, 2011

I'm a likely attendee, although may be brief since depending on dates will be home alone with baby. Can bring her out for a tipple but she cannae stomach more than three ales. (I loves me some Falling Rock, me.)

It's hard to say how long it goes. Typically they've been on weekdays, so not too long, but if we do it on Friday...

I was thinking meet up around 5:30p. It would probably last till 8:00p at least, but it's always possible that it could go later.

So, between Monday (4/4) and Friday (4/1) which do people prefer? I'm leaning toward Monday myself, just because LoDo on a Friday with a large group seems... troublesome.
posted by scrutiny at 1:46 PM on March 18, 2011

but, on the other hand if we meet Friday then there's no work on the next day. Always a good thing.

No one has killed the weekend idea yet either. Honestly, I probably prefer that the most but it's never seemed like a popular option before.
posted by scrutiny at 1:48 PM on March 18, 2011

I will totally devote a weekend evening to mefites. But as I said, you get me whenever it happens.
posted by freshwater at 4:05 PM on March 18, 2011

I'm in for Friday! I think a weekend night meetup would be great. I agree that LoDo is likely to be a cluster of fuck, but I'd be willing to brave it. Alternatively, we could hit the Rackhouse - it's one of my favorite places in Denver, but less accessible.
posted by McBearclaw at 8:17 PM on March 18, 2011

I have both Tuesdays and Saturdays off, so either date is fine with with me.
posted by heurtebise at 10:12 PM on March 18, 2011

I'm really liking the Friday idea, and I'd definitely be willing to go to the Rackhouse to avoid nutso LoDo crowds. Also, if you like public transport, the Rackhouse isn't terribly hard to get to; it's about a 8-10 minute walk from the Alameda station. The light rail also runs late so that could be helpful.

What Scrutiny said.
posted by NailsTheCat at 9:35 PM on March 19, 2011

Alright, sounds like a consensus over here. I'll wait another day or so to make it official, but right now Friday 4/1 at the Rackhouse seems like a go.

Meet up on April Fools! should be interesting. Hopefully I can make it.

(I pity the) April Fools! I'm looking forward to seeing MeFites old and new.

I'll be there! I've been wanting to go to the Rackhouse for a while, now.
posted by heurtebise at 6:26 PM on March 21, 2011

not easily accessible by public transit from the north. :( maybe next time.
posted by ansate at 7:48 PM on March 21, 2011

I'll also be bussing on down from Boulder. It'll be less boring if we go together! It'll be like a pre-meetup on the bus! :)
posted by Kattullus at 12:06 AM on March 22, 2011

Goddammit! I thought you guys were doing this downtown.

Sucks but ima gonna be skipping this one too. I'll ride the bus but having to transfer to light rail makes things unnecessarily complicated for me, and expensive for my friend who wanted to come along too :P
posted by lonefrontranger at 6:28 AM on March 22, 2011

Boo, I thought this was downtown as well! Any chance we can change yer minds?
posted by cyndigo at 10:00 AM on March 22, 2011

If we can't change your minds, I'll ask Mr. Cyndigo to drive ... if he says OK we'd have room for 2 Boulderites.
posted by cyndigo at 10:01 AM on March 22, 2011

I vote for moving the venue to accommodate lonefrontranger & cyndigo.
posted by lukemeister at 2:30 PM on March 22, 2011

ehh, lukemeister, I wouldn't go out of the way to change something that's already been decided. Mostly I'm just annoyed at myself for spacing on the Boulder meetup last night, thinking it was for tonight for some reason, plus I distinctly recall someone saying we would do the Denver meetup at Falling Rock, so I was stoked to go there.

but yea. hiking or riding out to the Rackhoue along that ped-and-bike-unfriendly section of Alameda and Santa Fe? not gonna happen. I'd gladly ride down Broadway if I had to (have done it before) but the area proposed is an alternate transportation blackhole, and kinda sketchy at night.
posted by lonefrontranger at 3:55 PM on March 22, 2011

I'm planning on going, Rackhouse or no, but it would be easier from a public transit standpoint to have it downtown. I've walked from the Alameda station to around the location where it is before, and it's not too far, but it wasn't that pleasant (partially because the shopping center that's adjacent to the station is a hassle on foot) and that was in the day. I would be much more wary about it at night, and still haven't quite figured out the best transit route to take back home after this thing is over.
posted by heurtebise at 4:16 PM on March 22, 2011

ok, so maybe I have a crazy solution to this problem?

On the one hand, I don't want to change venues because 1) LoDo (and hence Falling Rock) on Friday night might be a tad too insane, 2) we've never gone as a crew to Rackhouse, and 3) mrs.scrutiny is considering (considering!) joining us if we go to Rackhouse. She's never shown much interest before, so this is kind of cool.

On the other hand, I would really like to see people from Boulder and I'm sad that coming to the Rackhouse is a deal breaker. Also, just because mrs.scrutiny is thinking she might come doesn't mean she will, so that little tidbit of info should be discounted. If there's a semi-unanimous decision to move to Falling Rock I would be ok that.

However!

Am I totally remiss in suggesting a separate meetup at Falling Rock, maybe two weeks or so post-Rackhouse meetup? I mean, initially my idea was more crazy (think 'having the meetup the following weekday') but this could work out as well. The two downsides I see to this plan are that 1) Kattullus would take the bus + light rail (90 minute journey) with no company to the Rackhouse since presumably most boulder people would go to the Falling Rock meetup, and 2) that so many meetups in a row could lower enthusiasm and hence, attendance. Despite this, an additional meetup does take care of many of the problems discussed above. I mean, it's basically a brute force solution (have moar meetups), but what do people think? Terrible idea? Amazingly great idea? Mediocre idea?

I'm flexible, but won't do public transportation for Rackhouse. Anyone interested in carpooling from Boulder?
posted by cyndigo at 4:32 PM on March 23, 2011

I'll gladly hop on any available free seat, but I don't mind taking public transportation.
posted by Kattullus at 9:13 PM on March 23, 2011

Money would not allow me to go to Boulder (despite proposing the whole damn thing), but I will be at the Rackhouse with bells on.
posted by freshwater at 5:43 AM on March 24, 2011

I'm actually going to be visiting relatives in Denver - don't know if I'll be able to make it, as I have to see what the family has in mind, but if I can, I'll stop by!
posted by jasper411 at 11:49 AM on March 24, 2011

Weird; I was just at the Rackhouse for a work thing a few days ago. Good food. Hadn't been in that part of town for years...

cyndigo, if you still have a seat I might tag along.
posted by brennen at 8:15 PM on March 25, 2011

Sure Brennen, I'll have M keep you posted. K, I'll let you know if we're going by car later this week.
posted by cyndigo at 8:53 PM on March 26, 2011

Katt, Brennen, M is going to act as our chauffeur! Leave Boulder around 5:15-5:30?
posted by cyndigo at 4:29 PM on March 31, 2011

Super! Where and when should we meet up?
posted by Kattullus at 4:49 PM on March 31, 2011

Hey all, I probably won't be at the meetup tomorrow, but I finally got around to scheduling a Metafilter New Belgium Tour in Ft. Collins for June 18. Here's the meetup link. Hope you all have a great meetup tomorrow!

cyndigo - Sounds good to me. I'll talk to M in the morning.
posted by brennen at 10:48 PM on March 31, 2011

Oh crap! I completely messed up and can't come. Oh man, it would've been really great to see you all, but I have practice tomorrow (I'm playing Elihu in a playlet inside a multimedia musical extravaganza about the Book of Job... oh, and I'm banging some drums at some point). I thought the full practice was today, but I misread the e-mail. You all have a good time. If you want to come, incidentally, there's info here. There's male nudity, but I doubt that's gonna stop any of you.

Sorry you can't make it, Kattullus, but have a great show!

Looks like I'm gonna hafta bail on this one as well. Have fun, everybody.
posted by brennen at 10:17 AM on April 1, 2011

Well, darn ... I'm not up for that much bus/light rail on my own, so I guess the Boulder contingent is out. Will try to make the New Belgian tour!
posted by cyndigo at 10:54 AM on April 1, 2011

Wow! Who's still coming?! I'm babysitter less so I shan't be able to stay too long btw.

I'm hoping all the cancellations are just April Fools jokes.
posted by lukemeister at 12:31 PM on April 1, 2011

cyndigo,

I could give you a ride from Boulder.

NailsTheCat,

At least 2 coming from Boulder, so Keep Calm and Carry On!
posted by lukemeister at 1:41 PM on April 1, 2011

I'll be there, but probably not till 6p. The lady isn't coming, so we have to do some car shuffling.
posted by scrutiny at 2:54 PM on April 1, 2011

I will be there about 6ish, as well, since I am in a Goddamn Meeting until 5:30 or so, and then I have to take the 0 bus down there.
posted by heurtebise at 3:04 PM on April 1, 2011

Hmmm... well I will there around 5.45. I will have nailsthekitten. She and I will partake in dinner and I suspect a bottle of milk and have to leave around 7. Unless she falls asleep in the stroller. Depends how bad a parent I want to be.
posted by NailsTheCat at 3:07 PM on April 1, 2011

We'll be there! But not till a bit later...7 or so. See y'all soon!
