SHUX 2018?

SHUX is October 12 to 14 in fabulous Vancouver BC. Started in 2017 as the firstShut Up and Sit Down Expo, I was wondering if anyone else was going this year?
I made this a regional thing since people could be coming from all over for it. We'll be there Thursday, leaving on Monday and are staying at one of the Pinnacle hotels. If any fellow MeFites are going, it would be cool to have a meetup at some point.
SHUX is definitely my kind of event, but I will not be able to make it.

I looked at going, but the fee to go is somewhat insane. They are charging as much as *gencon* for a new convention? Um, no? Why?

A SHUX-themed MeFi meetup is very much my people. I, too, won’t be at the con but I’m down for a meetup.

Any ideas where would be a good place to meet? Thursday or Sunday would work for us.

If you're ok with places without alcohol, Brekka at Bute and Robson has lots of food and treat options and coffee of course, is open 24 hours a day, and has a lot of seating.

It’s too rich for my blood as well (though I’d happily do a third the price for a single day if that were an option, which it isn’t), but re this:

I think part of the hypothetical appeal is that unlike Gencon it isn’t full of exhibitors trying to sell you stuff. Which, understandably might mean they have to make that money up via ticket sales.

Sunday evening is better for me. Like, after 6pm.

So this didn't happen, but let's try to schedule a meetup sometime anyway? How's this weekend looking for folks?

Some ideas:
Craft Beer Market in Olympic Village
Alibi Room in Gastown
Back and Forth in Gastown (with ping pong!)
Storm Crow (Commerical or Broadway location)

I could do Friday or Saturday. Saturday afternoon / early evening would be my preference.
And I’d vote for Craft or Storm Crow.

Oh, and this is no longer showing up as a proposed meetup on the MetaTalk homepage. You might want to contact the mods and get this more visibility.
